ZeluvaRIP69er,
I actually know ryan pretty well. Grew up playing ball against his little brother, and ran eqiupment with ryan for about a year. He is a great guy, and a hell of an operator. Never hunted with him though. Next time you talk to him tell him Dallas Daves said hello.

That man can turn a backhoe on a dime and give you 15 cents change back!
I shall, I don't talk to him much, But if I hear from him I will
I remember getting out of the truck on the highway with Ryan, and his Pug, Mr. Miogy locking us out! Crazy little Peanut M&M eating terd lol. I had more fun with those two guys then a lot of people. I call them my brothers. Great friends, that's what Big Game hunting is all about, Good dogs, good friends, and good stories. Weather you catch anything that day or not, if you had fun, learned a new road, or saw something that struck you as unique, it was a succesful day in the woods!

My vote would have to be Lee Wolford in Idaho. He and I work together for the same outfitter and he catches on average around 20 cats a year for clients. He caught the number B&C #2 in the state 2 years back and it ended up being # 9 in the world..It was 15 14/16 final scored. He puts one in the books yearly for his clients and he kicks my butt every year by at least 5 cats
here kitty kitty kitty!!

Something to think about.
You want to know who is or was the best Lion hunter?
I gave this some thought after I found this site, I couldnt log on until I was accepted.
Ben Lilly was very good from what I have read, but did he work for a living or just hunt, did he have a wife and kids to worry about? NO. Bens responcabilitys were to take care of his donky, hounds and his self and hunt.
Other great lion hunters had a family, Ranch, Cattle, Horses, Hounds to take care of along with pickups, horsetrailers etc.... the list goes on and on. A lot of these Ranchers killed lions and bear to keep the lion and bear from killing all there cattle off. It was a way of life that was required if you wanted to stay in the cattle business.
I would have to say that the best lion hunter would be a lot to consider when I looked at all the circumstances.
Before 1970 there use to be a bounty on the lion and it was a predator not a big game animal like today. Anyone with hounds would get to hunt more and get there dogs on a lot of lions making the dogs better every year. Some of the government pd lion hunters get to hunt alot more than most everyday hunters, in turn they will have alot better dogs in a lot shorter time frame.

Loren Kiefer, seems to kill a book sized cat on a Res. every year running mainly walker dogs with a little plot or tick mixed in.

HoundDawg wrote:My buddy has hunted with a guy from southern Utah and talks a lot about him, a guy named Charlie Leeder. Serious lion hunter down out of St. George and been at it a long time.
Growing up in southern Nevada and hunting near the Utah state line, I remember running into Charlie Leeder while hunting with my father when I was young. He's the real deal. I had the opportunity of going into his house and meeting with him once recently in the last year. He was kind enough to take me downstairs and show me his trophy room. After looking around for a while I noticed he had 5-6 NICE mule deer, 3 NICE bull elk, a full body black bear, a couple sheep, etc but he didn't have a single lion mount. I knew him as a legendary lion hunter/outfitter so I asked him where all his lions were. He just laughed and said that he didn't make any money when he killed them. Then as we walked back upstairs I noticed A LOT of pictures all over his walls of lion kills with his clients over who knows how many years.
Very good lion hunter and just a great guy.

Charlie Leeder, now that's a real top lion hunter in Utah and probably in the whole west.
