i am curious as to why you made the cross you did. if you have these awesome blues you are into then why not keep improving on these lines???

Well let's see here, Vauhgn bred his for how many years, and Sebastion for how many, and Harry O. Smith for how many, and Del Cameron for how many? Somebody help me out here, since I don't know what I think I know, but that is a t-r-u-c-k-l-o-a-d of years.....how many more years would it take to produce an overall average of the litter pup that could finish the tracks that mine can't?

I aint no violin maker , and I sure as hell aint building no church here. This old man aint gonna live that long. But I aint burning no bridges , nethier.

So along comes this other breed of hound, from an expert Leopard hunter in Africa, with a nose of two different bloodhouds crossed to a warhound large Greyhound, Crossed to a Big Blue......

Now my rock lickin, stick licken, super cold nosed blue,....aint so cold no more....

If a young dog is special a thousand bucks would not be too much money to pay for a top hunter who wants to bring that special blood into the fold.

Buying a pup is the cheapest part of finishing out a top big game hound. First off, I don't give very many dogs credit until they have earned their strips meaning that they are a finished, go get'em caught hound. And if a dog is a top dog at four then it's a hell of a lot more at six or seven, but those are my thoughts and it doesn't matter if anybody else agrees or not. A pup is just a beginning, a young started dog is more and then the finished dog has earned it way and place in life. But that isn't where it all stops, cause a finished hound grows and develops just as a young dog does.

I have watched my eight and ten year old red dogs rig tracks the other dogs wouldn't bump on for years, and now see those five year old hounds starting to go hard on bear scent they can' t move. Personally I don't know what it is when a hound opens hard on a track they can't move, but it does trip my trigger and shows me a track that I would never had known was there. Granted, those hounds didn't catch that old boar track but they showed me that bear was there and gave me a starting point for the next hunt.

Years ago, I can remember hunting places where a guy couldn't find a track without a really good rig dog. And most of the hounddoggers that were finding bears were running off illegal baits. Now days I drive through those places and strike half a dozen bears and then remember back when I couldn't find a fresh track all weekend long. To me those dogs were made, nine years on the rig box hunting lions and bears. And to watch those younger dogs (the five year olds) starting to open on the old stuff shows me that it's a learning curve not breeding....

It may well be that there is a breed of hounds out there that will take a colder track than my hounds will take, but mine take tracks they can't finish from daylight til dark in the fall and spring weather. And if my hounds will stay gone from daylight until the next morning on a cold track then maybe I don't want to finish that track--meaning I don't want my dogs gone that far or long or deep. If others do, however, then by all means get after it.

As far as speed goes, that little Rui Li Bitch of mine is about as fast a hound as I ever say. Anybody and everybody that has watched my dogs go down a track are shocked and makes comments as to her speed. However, I have yet to see her lead a track on one single animal at the age of 2.5 years. The day may well come that she walks off and leaves my other dogs, but it hasn't happened yet, not one single time.

The main thing I believe is a guy buys and hunts what he's happy with, and if a guy isn't happy then he should by all means look elsewhere.........

Good luck on that litter Liontracker, and I hope they turn out to be all and more than you expect. Most everybody out there is looking for a silver bullet, meaning a super dog or breed that will take them to the next level, and if those get you there then more power to you!

Thanks Ike, the point of the matter is...that I am not trying to raise myself to the next level ... but raise the definition of cold nosed hounds...I do not honestly believe, that the coldest nosed BIGAMEHOUND on planet earth was created on US soil...no way --- no how...what we have is like the so called "Mustangs"... The "PP"...is and has been...France. Want the best hunting ST. Hubert go to France...

Want the coldest nosed biggame hound in France, buy a Grand Gascon Saintongeois...

Damn Tim you sure are causing a stir with your pups on all these boards! Hell if I had the amount of knowledge most of you all had and could scrounge up some money I would have tried to get one if nothing just to try it. Isnt that how we all started, try a little here and there to see what works? Im just now learning what I want in a dog and how I want them to do it for my liking. And sometimes you gotta pay to play. Shoot, stupid bulldogs will run you more than that. My best dog so far was free but since hes dead and gone I have another one taking his place (from Tim) and as young as he is will surpass the old one here real quick. Sometimes its the availability of a dog that makes it valuable, just like anything rare. Supply is down price and demand goes up. Tim, I really hope they work out awesome. I wanna check them out in person and maybe some day, some of that blood will make it into a breeding program of my own. I know Im late chiming in on this board but I was out huntin

My family and I went to France a few years back, and of course I had to stop by one of the hunting deals to look at the hounds. They kenneled about seventy-five dogs and hunted a group of dogs everyday on red deer, then rotated dogs I guess. The hunting lodge was full of trophies that I assume those hounds ran down, so it appeared that they could not only run down deer but catch them. I wondered at the time what six or eight of those hounds would do on a rough, bayed boar black bear.

Ike, that's just it, a guy has to wade through a bunch to get cat dogs. I think bear and hog would be a natural for them.
