Caught a nice little 175# female on Saturday. Started it at 7:30am had it treed, killed and out by 9:00am. Our 3y/o Walker male started it, then our friends 6y/o Walker/Redtick followed in we let out our 9y/o Leopard and the race was on. It was a very run time. This was my first bear tree since my heart surgery almost 2 years ago. We are very proud of our dogs. Very nice way to end the first day of opening season 09'

Thank you larry. I just got my bear rug back from 06' its sorta collored like a grizz. I will try and post pics of it too. Its sure pretty.

This was our first bear tree of this years california season, we had a shooter named Tom, it was his first big game hunt, he was so pumped.

Yeah we got lucky You should come on up and do some hunting with us there are plenty of bear to go around. Oh, and of course my uncle was there, I couldn't find my way out of the woods without my "horn honker". His little plott is doing awesome, I think he will be leading the pack in no time. Ya, maybe we can come that way this weekend. Trying to get in as much hunting as we can before november as the wedding will take up at least one of our weekends. Oh it is your uncle i thought it was your grand dad or is this not cody?

We have our old man bro, hemi, & duke to hunt as our plott female is due to have her pups on the 6th, but after that we will have her as soon as the pups are part weaned. Duke is stepping up to be one of the top and i want to see how silver does on bear this year, as last year all the bears wanted to do is run.

My uncle is actually my great uncle, he is a great old time hunter that will forget more than i will ever know! Any time you want to come up and hunt those bear dogs let me know, i always need the dog help. Congrats on the wedding, talk with you later, cody

I'll have alex give you a call so we can come up soon. I hope my dad dont think he can steal my dog for the whole season. Hes out a dog, as my sisters dog had to have surgery on his leg as he broke it out a sutter one night roading them. But if he is will still have 2 dogs to catch some game.

Nice bears! This is one we got on opening day also. This was our first black bear hunt with a hound. Earlier this year my dad decided it was time to open our horizons and start hunting black bear with hounds and purchased a full grown really to hunt plott / Walker hound. We were not sure of what the dog was capable of doing but the guy we bought the hound from told my dad that he would guarantee him that the dog would hunt. So on opening day of California black bear season we took the dog and before you know it he picked up a strike and about a mile running he had a color phase female bear treed. We were using the classic receiver and collar from Tracker so we lost the signal from the receiver for about an hour. It took use about 2 hours to get to our hound but the hike was well worth the reward of hearing the beautiful sounds of our hound treeing a colored phase bear. I had read before that once you hunt with hound you get a feeling and love for the sport that is incomparable to any other hunting feeling , well I am a believer let me tell you. We did have one heck of a time packing that bear out but I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Just a quick question what the average distance that it takes a bear before he is treed that is if he decides he wants to go up the tree?

is that walker plott cross named squirrel? Good looking bear and congrats! There is no such thing as a usual time limit to catch a bear, I have caught them in five minuits and I have caught them after 6 hours.
