I need help finding something

I am looking for a female plott PUP (must be registared) close to this color to breed this male to in hopes of throwing some pups this color. The man I got him from will be breeding this stock again this year but, will be using the same stud as my male unless his old dog can reproduce. I myself don't like breeding half brother and sister unless it's a half too.The amount of brindle is of little concern but, something close to his would be nice. I know color doesn't hunt but, I guess we just like what we like. I believe Mr. White (pocuhantus) has or had a male similar to him in color and wondered if there were any more (poc) out there. I would like to stick with some proven big game stock if possible. Thanks.

Oh and he lost part of his tail in a run in with a car when he was 10 weeks old so that's why the short tail.

Breed your stud to another plott hope she throws a female close to what you want and put your stud to that one that's what I would do.But I would not breed just for color good luck

Your suggesting to this man to inbreed his dogs to get a certain color??...I'd look for a buckskin plott outside of the genes you have first...Line breeding is one thing but I'd stay clear of inbreeding...Just because you put two pure breed buckskins together don't mean your going to get buckskin plotts...Chances might be better but not a sure thing....Perkey

I know color doesn't hunt but, I like different so I guess that's why I like his color so well. I want a registard female so I can have registarded pups. I also will NOT breed that close. I just don't like it myself. Everyone is different and has their own opionin on that subject so I'm not going into that. I'm just looking for a well bred female close to his color with papers. A pup would be best for me so that I can train her my way and if she wasn't worth a damn get rid of her. I will not breed a marginal female just because she's got the color I like.

I agree you have a better chance gettin buckskins out of two buckskins but its hard to find a registered buckskin considerin you cannot honestly register them! Also unless your a genetics genius you cant control the color outcome. You may get all black dogs out of two buckskins or rather lighter colored plotts. Good luck

I was only telling him that if he is trying to get a dog like his that's the best way.The reason you hunt the dogs you have today is because of inbreeding and line breeding how many plott's did he bring over?.But like I said I would not do it for color. Also in the original post all they cared about was the color and now the reply is about hunting ability.Well good luck in your search.

I also agree with worrying bout hunting ability that is more important! I am just not a fan of color breeding! The plott men started with 5 dogs so you can go figure on line breeding and in breeding! I have bred half mates before and it turned out very nice! I would suggest for him to leaving the breeding to houndsmen that worry bout ability and not color! Pretty dogs are on tv hounds are on the tree!

It is true that buckskins cannot be reg. with UKC. They can be reg. with AKC however. Many call a dog colored like the one in the picture, a buckskin. UKC calls that one a brindle and no problem with reg. UKC doesn't require a certain amount of brindle in order to reg. a pup. as long as there is the smallest amount of brindle, anywhere on the dog, they will reg. without question.

I'm not an idiot. I don't need to "leave the breeding to houndsmen who breed for ability rather than color". All the pup's that didn't make the cut would be culled not passed on to someone else. I will never own another dog unless it's a plott. However, I like the "red brindle" plotts. I like looking at them in my lot. Just so happens that this "red brindle" plott has the ability, drive, stamina, good feet, nose, grit, and personality to breed to. Just because I want a female "red brindle" in hopes of throwing some pups does NOT mean I will breed to her if she doesn't make MY cut. I'm sorry maybe I didn't make myself clear. .

Then you should have said big game proven only not if possible sounds like you were willing to take a chance also you said get rid of not cull in your second post,But you have made it clear now or changed your mind after every reply and yes those red plott's do look sharp lost one to a snake bite wish we still had T-Bone.I will be in NC this week bear hunting will keep my eye out for you.
