Time to get rid of dog?

I have a 1 1/2 year old pup who growl'd and bit at a few hounds as they came up to sniff her. she's been with other hounds before, however, this behavior has brough some concern.. Is it time to find a new home for her? If i try to smack her or shock her when she does it again, there are no guarantee's that she won't do it again?
Is this a sign that she can't hunt with other hounds? is it time to find her another home?
any advice would be helpfull,
Thx

Is it the first time that she has done it? If it is then I would give her another chance. One of your other dogs out of nowhere sometime could do the same thing. If its reoccuring I would probably think about getting rid of her.

I for one don't mind a female growling at a dang male that thinks he has to sniff everything around. Is the female spayed? If not be careful as she can be coming into heat and that will attract males. Nothing makes me madder than a male that doesn't mind his business and sometimes a grouchy ol female is the best way to teach them young males where NOT to stick their noses.
Good luck

I agree. What is she supposed to do just stand there and get sniffed even if she doesn't like it... not a big deal. at all.

Yeager- Are you hunting when this happens? Is she snapping at strange dogs? Kick the dogs ass that's sniffing her.

Sounds to me like she's coming into heat. If you don't want to breed her, get her away from those pesky males before its too late!

:D
yup , me too --

ive always been hard on males for any growling, hairing up ,etc
i dont let them get away with anything---i think its very important to teach all male dogs some manners-

i just let the small stuff slide with females-

i guess my reasoning for this is, ive almost never seen females that were a serious problem, i have seen a lot of them that ruled the dog box :)

as long as your pup just backs them down, and stops , doesnt continue to go after them, i dont see it as a problem

I seen to many females that rule the box rule the tree also . It is not to good to let other dogs correct behavior it is your job so as to keep it under control. To me that is where most problems come from . Just like some feel you need an apha male to keep the pack in order. all you are doing is promoting an event that is better left undone.

usually i have found horses dogs kids etc... if you are consistant about adressing and taking the right steps to fix every little problem that comes up, you dont have the big ones. i also decided a long time ago if you get rid of the dog that fights, you dont have any fighting problems. life is too short to try and figure out why, how come he does this? sometimes you have to stop analyzing and making excuses and go on with the dogs that would rather think about hunting than fighting. i might be bias because that is one thing i will cull a dog for no matter how young or how good, i hate it. i keep all mine, 5 of them in a 60 by 60 pen, they all eat and sleep together, and if they cant they dont eat my food anymore.
