Looks pretty neat, sounds good, but looks like you have to have a laptop also to use it, which would be its downside.........

No laptop required. The laptop is for their software that uses google earthand the stored information in the collar to show you on a 3-d map where your dog went. This is different from a Garmin. Here is a link to their receiver. http://www.tinyloc.com/us/r2tracer.php
Theirs no map, just an arrow pointing you the direction to your dogs. Their collars are gps/radio telemetry collars and the receiver picks up both. They claim the collars will transmit a gps signal 13.6 miles and their radio signal 35 miles, here's a link. http://www.tinyloc.com/us/houndtracer.php. They don't say if their receiver or antenna are sensitive to pick it up that far though. All in all it looks pretty snazzy! I'd be willing to try it out, after someone else did first. Especially with the price tag.

EDIT: They are a Spanish company out of Barcelona. Better off sticking with wildlife, marshalls and others, at least they manufacture in the USA! Garmin is made in Taiwan by the way.

I have contacted the company asking for more information. will see what they send me.

There is a thread on here with someone who is using it and posting first hand opinion of it. Check out his info on the pro's and cons of the system.

I'm running garmins, a tinyloc, and regular collars all together...

I have been using one for about 3 weeks and comparing it to the garmin and the regular beeper...What I came up with;

Garmin lost signal at max 2 miles
Tinyloc
GPS mode lost signal at 9 miles
Beeper mode about 14 miles... Same as my Marshall collars,and in one instance I couldn't read anything but the Tinyloc beeper.

Garmin- tree signal is worthless.
tinyloc- has a tilt tree switch on the GPS mode only.

Garmin- has a map page.
Tinyloc- you have to wait till you get home & plug in to comp.

Garmin- Max. 10 collars.
Tinylocs- (advertises) Max. 100 collars.

Tinyloc collars turn on & off through the reciever or with a magnet. A person has to know what they are doing to turn off with magnet ( thief probably wont know how ).

The Tinyloc runs in the 150 freq. about the same as the Garmin so the problem with high powered radios some people seem to have may still be there. If you are running beeper collars that are in the 150.s you can track them.
I put in a garmin freq. and could read the signal from a garmin collar (as a beep signal) and get it at further distance than the 220 could pick it up.

Tinyloc- antenna Is cheap.
The system is pricy, but ( your buying 2 collars in 1 ).

My main gripe with the Garmin and the reason i'm switching over is BATTERY LIFE!!!

Tinyloc- 7 DAYS!!!
Garmin- A LOUSY 2 DAYS & 1 NIGHT

Greg, it will interesting to see how long it takes them to get back to you.

Since there are no specs available on the collars. I wonder about the battery size, and weight of the collars. Guys were complaining about the Garmin's weighing 8oz's. Having to send out 2 signals would think the batteries would have to be bigger. Also if you look the signal for the GPS on the tinyloc only sends a signal every 12 or 30 secs.

Also the garmin tree switch works a lot better if you set the collar to treeing. Mine seem to work fine. Like any other tracking collar though will go off if going up a hill.

It doesn't matter what position the garmin collar is in, ( they have no tilt tree switch ) what does matter is how fast they're being moved. If the dog isn't moving faster than about 30 yards in 2 minutes it's gonna say treed, which can happen a lot on a bad lion track.
Turn your collar on, set it outside in any position you want. I bet it trees all night as long as you don't move very far (about 25 yards).

LIKE I SAID!!! Set your collar to the correct setting. NOT AUTO. Standing in the upright position or as it would sit on the dog. It can sit there all night and say just one thing when set right. SITTING!

You say you have to wait until you get home and plug into the computer .. what mapping software do you use and does it down load the tracks from each dog or collar?

Steve, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers,but it really doesn't matter how you set your unit or if your collar is facing up down sideways or upside down. If your unit says treed or sitting, all it means is your dog isn't moving out of a certain area... Try it! I did, mabe my unit finally crapped out!!!
Garmin owners manual page 55 explains it better than me with less words.

Jeff, Your not ruffling any feathers here!!

You must have an older manual. The newest ones barley speak of it at all. Page 55 is a spec page in the new ones.

Not saying the tree switch works the best. Just that it does work better when the collar is set to a treeing type dog.

The only tree switch that I have seen that is even close to accurate is my ears. those are even wrong once in awhile!

Is there anybody getting nine miles out of a garmin? How are you comparing your distances? Is it line of site or mtn terain. I just bought a garmin and would hate to think I should have waited a little longer.
