Just a few thoughts on your question. One can look at history and come up with the answer. When the Japanese needed bear dogs to catch man eating bears. What breed did they buy? When bear hunters from Sweden and Norway need bear dogs to catch grizzly bears. What breed do they buy? When bear hunting with dogs began in Wis. and Mich. What bred did they use? When other breed of dogs were chasing fox, there was on breed that was breaking the trail for others to fallow. There is only one breed of dogs that are known for what they do, period!

Use what works for you and what makes you happy. :D Many different breeds have proven theirselfs and great bear dogs.

You said it all. They were the first and are still at the top. What you need to do is this. Get a couple of real nice dogs and send them to Sweden. They can only run two dogs on a bear, no me two dogs, and no slacker dogs, just good dogs will a lot of guts. Do a little research on what a bear dog is and then you will understand the difference between a dog that runs bear and a bear dog. Do this and I'll bet your opinion changes over night. As far as I know, there is no Bozo blood in Sweden, there for you can be the first to show the world a real walker bear dog!

No it is a true story, let me tell it to you. I have to come clean, you see I have been running these swedish dogs for about 20 years now. I have been keeping it low profile. The Bozo crap is a cover up. But that catch is too smart like larry, and he caught me, thus he gets his name catch.
Only difference is I only use one dog to catch all my bear. These dogs are amazing. You put on your little knickers in the morning make your self a thermos of swiss miss hot chocolate, put your little pointy green hat on and the bear are treed before you even load up the dogs. Then you blow your 20 foot horn and go home and you are back by 9:00am, funny thing is you strated at 8:45am.
If any of you want one of thes dogs send $3000 and I will put you on a list. Yes that is a small price for a deposit on your new swedish bear dog another $3000 on the pick up of your puppy. You see never have these dogs even been let into the country and only I have these swedish bear dogs and yes catch caught on and had to let the cat out of the bag so to speak.
The French have been using these dogs for a very long time but they are not as pure and have been bred out with the French bull dog. So don't pass up your chance for one of these pure swedish bear dogs, give me a call.
These dogs will only go to REAL BEAR HUNTERS , this means you must pass a coarse and larry and catch are the instructors because only they know a REAL BEAR HUNTER AND REAL BEAR DOGS.

This is my lead dog and the dog I use the most.
The sire to your new pup.

Cheque is in the mail.
Will they come with the famous Larry brand ? You know, hand imprints on each side of the dog about 12" from the rear and a raised tail ?

I must have rocks in my head to keep arguing with beginner bear hunters. Before I go, I wanted to tell you I enjoyed your story, it made me laugh also. Not because it is true, but because of the similarities between the French, Spitz and Bozo Walker bear dogs. You see they have one thing in common, the all lack guts. Guts it what it takes to make a bear dog, not color, size, speed or tree. It takes guts, guts, guts and some more guts. You have never seen it so you will never understand.

Take care guys, and good luck hunting.

Everyone is passionate about the breed they hunt. Opinions and preferences sometimes get in the way of the truth. The truth is that bear dogs are made by people who hunt hard, no matter the breed of hound you choose. To think otherwise is narrow minded. I've hunted long enough to see good bear dogs of every breed.
