last night i turned out on the river trying to catch a coon with some pups two 15 month old gyps that are supposedly cat dogs and a 2 year old walker male thats never seen any thing but a coon and a 6 year old walker thats only ran coons so i turned out the older dogs and was leading the two red gyps in and the older dogs kept getting off the river and i would call them back down finnaly they opened up so i figured i would let them get it straightened and turn the pups loose well nothing straightned out they went REAL REAL choppy like their treed so i turned out and sent my buddy back to get the pickup and went to the tree well it wasnt a tree it was a bobcat in someones trap the two gyps were easy to catch they were scared of it and it took me a while to catch my other dogs i felt bad because they tore the cat up a little bit but nothing i could do. I got out of the area not wanting to get a dog in a trap and turned out on a big bluff over the river and my 2 year old struck and was gettin it all straightned out so i turned out the gyps after about an hour of the two older dogs working it and making numerous loses i knew something was going on finally the gyps opened up and it was gettin way hot finally they treed and i got there and ill be damned if it wasnt a bobcat i have hunted down there for the whole season and never caught a cat and i know their in there i dont know if that two year old is out of cat dogs and i just hadnt given him a chance but that was way funner than any coon hunt i have been on I think im gunna start tryin to run cats im 18 and dont have the wife and kids like most guys so why not do it while i can...

i also started out coon hunting. for a long time i didnt have anything that would catch a cat so it wasnt that fun. it wasnt until i got a dog to catch a cat that it all came together. after that it was pretty much cat hunting and grey fox, with a little coon hunting here and there. i am glad you are having fun. with a cat you sure get to listen to your dogs alot more. good luck on your next cat hunt.

Good Story!
You are well on your way to a worse Addiction than Cocaine or Pot.
No known cure, the only hope is continued therapy. Sounds like you have the right Dr.s to help you.
Keep them in the woods, Good Luck!

I wish I could have started destroying my life with bobcat hunting at 18. I might have avoided that whole wife thing altogether.
Once you have tasted catching a steelhead on a fly, it is kinda hard to go back to catching tadpoles with a paper cup. I am afraid you will have to kiss your old life goodbye.
We are rooting for you. keep us posted.

nicely put and nice post david, i could honestly give up deer, bear and elk hinting and steelhead and salmon fishing to hunt my hounds. if you knew me personally, you wouldnt think so but thats how addicting it is. you guys all know what im talking about. any day spent even looking for lost dogs is better than any day at work or spent on the river!
JIMMY
BEST OF LUCK!

I went out friday night and caught two big boar coons it took about an hour to catch the first one put him in a brush pile i got him out and let the dogs put the kill on him. Headed back to the truck went down the river turned out again and had about a 20 minute race then put him under a big ass rock and he was hung up for about 3 hours finally we got him out and the dogs put the kill on him great night... and good for the pups.
