Anybody know what the regs are on Garmin GPS collars in Montana for hound hunting? Maybe a link on a website, etc...? Just trying to decide whether or not it's legal before I go out and buy one.

I don't know the laws in Montana. I've ran with normal tracking collars and with GPS. Here in utah. I do believe GPS is coming around to be the best thing, our country here has a wide randge from desert to high mountians.(Maybe the same country as Mont.)
My advise would be to ask around to see how it works in your area before you spend the money. This is a little off your subject but I would hate to see any of us spend the money on a snipe hunt. The wives just don't understand.

Newby, I heard about you! Your the guy that everyone is talking about. Well, mabey not. I'm a friend of Troy's and Rylan's brother in law. They both spoke highly of you.

GPS collars are perfectly legal in Mt. Here is an exerpt from the Mountain Loin Regulations for '09 - '10 season:

Two-way Communications – It is unlawful to use two-way
communications to: 1) hunt big game animals as defi ned in
MCA 87-2-101(8). “Hunt” means to “pursue, shoot, wound, kill,
chase, lure, possess or capture”; or 2) avoid game checking
stations, FWP enforcement personnel, or to facilitate unlawful
activity. When hunting mountain lions or bobcats with dogs,
this rule applies when hounds are placed on tracks in a district
open to mountain lion or bobcat harvest. The rule shall not be
interpreted to prohibit the possession or use of two-way radios
for safety or other legitimate purposes, nor does it prohibit the
use of radio tracking equipment to locate hounds when hunting
mountain lions or bobcats.

Sounds good...yeah, Troy and Riley are good guys. Thanks for the info. I can never make heads or tails of the fish and game regs...Could they make those things MORE complicated to find what you need? Can't wait to get back over that way and tag along on another hunt. Talk to you later.
