IN MY WORLD

After spending to much time on the internet hunting world i wanted to say a few things about my world.
In my world not everyone needs or really knows what a "cold" nosed "hound" is
In my world those once in a life time crosses aren't usally recognised until one or both the parents is dead.
In my world truly finished great hounds spend there entire life times @ the place they were raised and there owner tries to replace them when there dead and gone usally without sucess
In my world great lines of dogs are not advertised on expensive ellaborate web sites, there hunted by men who only trade amongst people who they know first hand can handle and maintain what they worked there a** off to produce.
In my world those same dogs are all spoken for before there weened and no there is no waiting list you can get on.
In my world you got just as good a chance of getting a good'un for $50.00 as a pup as you do paying $500.00 and paying to ship that bag of walking hype.
In my world when your dog runs trash you briefly ponder .22 or tri-tronics, but you grap the e-collar one more time
In my world you feed em the best you can afford, train alot spending to much time away from the wife and kids, haul'em way to much, loose to much sleep, worry like hell when there out of hearing, freeze your butt off and then some still dont turn out
In my world your dog box is homade maybe even passed down cause you spent so much money already on trucks, tires, trackers, training collars, feed, gas, gas, gas that your broke and you hope the wife never adds it all up
In my world you wonder why the hell you didn't learn to play golf, or just deer hunt insted, then your ol hound strikes and you wonder how any one could live without it

In my world a man seldom if ever sells a hound to anybody who lives close to him cause he doesn't want to compete with that blood. In my world he's glad to see a young man take one from another state if that young man wants one. In my world I wouldn't run another man's hounds cause the bond between my hounds and me is what makes the sport special. In my world the hunt is about me and those hounds and the game they chase, no a ride along, a hunter or a buddy, never was and never will be.........
If Ben Lilly or the Lee Brothers were alive today and offered me a pup I'd tell him the same thing I've told others, have a yard full of hounds and if I breed again the cross will be made in my back yard between those hounds...........
In my world I've had a dozen people speak for a pup from my next cross, and one guy who claimed he'd buy the whole litter. In my world I'd rather people wonder what I have than hunt what I have. In my world the man makes the hounds and not the other way around. In my world it was never about becoming the best hound hunter that ever lived or having the best hounds that ever lived, but rather about the hounds I chose and me becoming the best that we could be with what we have to work with..
Merry Christmas,
ike

In my world the best hounds whether they be 5 or 15 die way too early. In my world the friends I have made and people I have met because of my hounds I will always have and appreciate. In my world to pass on what I have learned from others and through my own experiences both good and bad makes it all that much better. In my world you have to have a sense of humor, cause s**t happens, especially when hunting hounds and it is better to laugh than get angry. In my world cherish each and every moment with your hounds, friends, and most of all your family cause life is short and time passes quickly!

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!

Waylon, Ike, and BHP... everything said is so TRUE.
But like BHP said most important one must enjoy it all family, friends, and the dogs because it can be all gone in a flash. I think some people get caught up in all the garbage and miss alot.
Enjoy! Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

Stitch,
Never put hounds, hunting or any activity above family because in the end if a person has lost that (their family and loved ones) none of the other stuff means anything! My wife has been a saint, and if she told me to get rid of those hounds they'd go to the first buyer and at a price where they would sell quickly!
Merry Christmas to you as well,
ike

Your speakin wisdom there brother about the dogs before the family. My boy is 5 now my girls are 8 & 10. I try and take'em evry time i can, in fact i keep an ol plott here who would rather tree opossum than eat or sleep, i keep her for the one reason the kids can handle a opossum track, it's a quick tree short track and they get to see a dog work. They love it, i catch heck from my buddies about her but you couldnt buy her, my boy thinks she's the best dog alive and tells big stories about our big hunts to his pa pa.The day will come when he gets his own Hounds, I pray alot that he will wear out my trucks get them stuck break transfer cases burn my gas waist my bullets and call me @ 3 in the mourning saying dad i'm stuck or so and so is out of hearing and i cant find him.
It beats the other calls like, dad i'm in jail, or sir your son was in a wreck he had been drinking. I owe them old hounds alot. They kept me busy when i was younger and by the time i knew there were such a thing as drugs & booze i was addicted to hounds not meth or whiskey. Thanks guys for adding your words of wisdom to this ramble of mine, i ain't got much wisdom to share or the best dogs around but in my world there pretty good just ask my boy

Merry CHRISTmas to all the houndsmen and women the FINEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

Waylon your rirgt on about whats important. Last night I came home from work tired. My boys best freiend was in the driveway home on leave from the army.My boy is 15 and his friend is 19 they each took two dogs out. About 11 oclock i finaly fell asleep worrying. I woke up about 2 oclock to find him safe asleep in his bed. All he has talked about since I got home from work is the coon they put in a log and finaly ran out and treed. And how good the dogs did.Treeing a coon might not seem like much but it is the best thing in the world for them. At least in my world. Merry Christmas to all.

Larry thats good stuff right there. i had an ol walker dog he was finley river bred and he was a coon treeing machine loved him like a son. Had some awesome good honest fun with him, never regreted a min. of the time i spent in the woods with him and who ever else i could drag with me and it helped make me who i am now. What is it about hounds that just grab some guys souls, ol Will Rogers said that little saying " THERE'S SOMTHING ABOUT THE OUTSIDE OF A HORSE THATS GOOD FOR THE INSIDE OF A BOY (MAN) "
Same thing goes for Hounds.
" There's gotta be a Heaven for hounds somewhere "
Hope ya'll have as good a CHRISTmas as were havin "
