Good Night!

Well most people probably wouldnt think that it was a good night if you didnt catch a bobcat but I had a great time with a good buddy. Well for the longest time Ive been trying to get my dogs going on cats, havent had a hot enough track or even found that many! Well we had a skiff of snow last night, about 1/2" tops. I tell my buddy we'll go out after work and try it out. We find tons and tons of coyotes, no lions and some deer. I get a text a little before we take this side road before we head home from a buddy. Turns out he went to an area we go to sometimes and he was also looking for a cat. His brother and him ended up seeing 2 bobcats off the road and he ends up turning loose of course and trees and gets his 7th of the season. He has a well seasoned dog, and he's pretty good at what he does. Well after I called him and get off the phone with him I take a side road that leads to the highway, end up getting about a mile from the highway and one of our new dogs Josie and my dog Belle just blow up! Look out my window and there is a bobcat track. Took awhile for them to get it going but when they did they were smoking it! They sounded like they had it treed down by a lake but it ended up jumping and they were on it again. They took it across the lake and ice, which was pretty thin to say the least! They ran it for awhile longer, it was about a 2 hour race and they lost it. They did a giant circle almost but never could quite finish it. This was my dog Belles first bobcat race and Josie has been on a few and treed a few of her own but she isnt finished. All and all it was a good night!

Yeah Im excited that I got my main female going. She really needed something to get her going. It was great to listen to the two dogs working at night on a cat track!

Thanks for the story. Lots of memories flooding in. I enjoy stories of the one that got away just as much as any. I like imagining that cat still out there walking around laying tracks for you. keep up the good work.

It was weird because we thought we had him treed. We were above them and could hear them going crazy down below us by the lake so we ended up going to this road that led right down there, then all of a sudden we see 2 sets of dogs eyes going right up towards us, we must of just missed seeing that bobcat because they blew by us in the truck and went the way we just came down and started blowing up again and then worked it back down to the lake and across the lake this time and the chase was on again. Seemed they lost it after it crossed the dry pavement of one of the main roads

The people who told me that Josie dog was an excellent strike dog werent joking! Think I might have to modify my summer box or winter box and throw her up top at times, as the weather permits! My buddy is more then happy with her, as am I!
