How do you go about measuring a Bear Skull? I looked on Boone and Crocketts site, is it just the longest length and width in a straight line or do you go over the area of the skull with a flimsy tape measure? Meaning do you measure to the side of the skull the total length and do the same for the width or do you got over the skull with the tape measure from the back side of the skull to the front and do the same for the width?

One way you might try is to set the skull on a desk or flat surface and push it against the wall, take a framing square and push it up against the other side of the skull. Then just measure straight between the square and the wall to get your measurement. Its quite accurate and very simple. And yes you measure the width and length and add them together. Hope that helps.

the only way to do it accurately is with a caliper. when measuring for the length you go from the front by the teeth to the back of the skull. then the width is measured from both eye guards. i just had mine measured for boone and crocket and it scored 21 3/16.
