Haydens first bobcat

We went out yesterday to look for a cat track. We had good conditions.I went in one direction,my father went in another direction and my brother went in yet another direction. We found a track right off,so I started trying to freshen it up.Wille acted like he could smell it so I turned him loose. He got out a couple hundred yards and then I turned Alley in.Wille wasn't barking but he won't open until he jumps it.They seemed to get hung up for a minute and then they started to break out,Wille started opening a little and acted like they were hung up again. We went in to see if we could help and they were just milling around looking for the track so I hooked them up and took the Garmin and made a loop out around there tracks to see if I could cut the track again. There were no tracks leaving.I came around to were the dogs came into the area and saw the tracks and they didn't look like the cat was jumped,he was just walking. There were some huge spruce and hemlock trees in there and all I could figure was that the cat was laid up in there and the dogs couldn't locate the cat in those big trees.I have never ran into this before but that was all I could figure might have happened.
While we were wondering about what to do,we heard on the radio that dad had a couple cats going and could use some help,so we decided to head out and go see if we could help him.The cats had run back and fourth across the road but they just kept missing them and his dogs Fanny and my Bonnie dog were getting tierd. So when I arived I asked them were the freshest track was and they showed me one that they figured was about a half hour old with no dogs on it.I turned Wille and Alley in and they took right off we heard them go out of hearing and they were heading for another road. When we arrived at the other road we could hear the dogs and they were realy roaring. It sounded like they were catching the cat. Then they started heading back to were we sarted I called on the radio for everybody to get back there and get spread out,by this time we had quite a crew because my brother and Tim, the guy that he was hunting with had joined us also.We got back there, everybody sarted spreading out and the dogs were 600 yds out and coming good and all of a sudden they came up treed.Every body walked into the tree, which I think by this time it was 12 of us.Hayden drew the short straw,so he got to shoot the cat.He was treed in a big tree that was coming out the top of a beaver lodge. Thanks for reading.

Spruce Mountain,

Was that Second Nature in the group photo?

Great story and pics!

We read the pleasure that you all had in the Hunt in every line that you wrote. A Great Hunt with Great People and Hounds...it just don't get much better than that!

We have been dodging the Snow here in our part of AR. The Northern part of the State looks sort of like Maine this morning.

We are headed to Fl. later this week and hope to have some good Daylight Races!

Happy New Year, and Stay after the Shorttails!

CJC
