Northeast Wyoming is becoming a “hotbed” for rabid skunks.

Post by Big Horn Posse »

Northeast Wyoming is becoming a “hotbed” for rabid skunks. There has been a high number of confirmed cases of rabid skunks in the Sheridan area recently. Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter Director Cel Hope said that all of the six skunks that have been sent to the lab for testing in the last three weeks have come back positive. Up until now, most of the rabies cases have been confined to Campbell County. So why is the virus spreading west? Veterinarian Jennifer Gage with Bischoff Veterinary Services in Sheridan. Gage says that it isn't just the number of rabid skunks that are on the rise. Gage said that all mammals are susceptible to rabies and that cats are about four times more likely to get rabies than dogs. If you happen to spot a skunk in your area, in particular during the day, you should contact Animal Control as soon as possible.

Lol isn't it funny how some dogs get on a skunk or porky once and that is all it takes for them to be crazy for them. I remember years ago my ex had a black and tan walker cross that was a great coonhound, but if there was a skunk or porky in the area she would be after it. No matter how many times she was sprayed or quilled, no matter how much you shocked her she would still go and get into them. Lol was a very stinky and frustrating time to hunt with her lol
