To you guys who " REALLY " have line bred dogs and have had for some time or have been handed a line of dogs. how long do you say that a family of dogs is bred close before you can consider it a LINE of dogs. 2nd question how many dogs do you have to have to breed your self to maintain a line. I mean with out making an out cross 3rd and final question how far can you outcross before you have diluted that family where its not really a line of dogs anymore

i have been breeding the line i have since 1978 its been father to daughter , father to grand daughter ,back in the 80,s a friend had some of my dogs he would cross one of his males ,then we would come right back in ,breed close and hold what we had . the only prolbem ,is you have to be willing to cull ,if you know what you want in dog;s thats what you strive for . on out cross i try to find a female as close to haying the same traits my line shows ,make the cross , pick the best female breed her to her father keep all the pups and go from there remember ,if your not willling to be honest ,with your self ,and cull ,dont breed dogs . as soon as you outcross you have changed your line . if you dont have someone to help keep a line of dogs going its tough and takes a lotta years , www.fallriverwalker.com
