I was wondering about hi tan hounds and from what breed or ancestry they come from. I see alot of pics of them on a few forums and alot of guys run them in their packs out west here. Just wondering if anyone can give me some background on these hounds. Thanks.

I've heard there were a few breeders that bred "Hi-Tan" hounds, and those weren't really a breed but a line of dogs. Most of the Hi-Tans you see out here are just mixed breeds. It's just a color. Most are Triggs or Walker(or Trigg)/Plott crosses from what I've seen.

Most foxhounds throw alot of Hi-tan dogs and those are not anything special good or bad just better looking i always thought, some folks around here call them old line walkers even though many different color foxhounds can throw them not just running walkers and there not really a breed or anything, if that type is the ones your talking about the are usually tan bodied with black blankets on them and a little black trim here and there. But many foxhounds come Hi-tan

Walker black and tan crosses throw a high percentage of high tans with white points. Redbone black and tan crosses throw many with no white points and rich color.
I love the color for sentimental reasons.
