what would you guys papy for an 8 week old pup?

Depends on what the pup is worth to you and how bad you want it. Some people pay $50 some people will pay $1000. Kind of seems to be the same question as asking ” what breed do you prefer “ a pup out of different stock is worth more to one person them to another.

For the most part pups go for $250-$500. That seems to be the average.

There are some people that spend years working on there line of dog and they charge to up-wards of $800-$1000 for a 8 week old pup and they sell’em..

True Story, damn near wore out a pickup truck and burned enough fuel to torch the Golden Gate Bridge trying to turn the free pup into a hunting dog. LOL!

Just my opinion and experiences. Just because you pay hundreds for a pup doesn't mean squat, and same for a free one. A lot boils down to the raising/training of the hound no matter the price. Some just don't work out.

That is all good information. I would add that if your just starting you might want to look in to buying a well started dog as a lot of errors are made by people just starting out with pups as they expect to much to soon. You will have to pay a little more but you would have put that same money or more into raising and training the same age dog. Buying started dogs, buyer beware do your homework ask a lot of questions and hunt with your new prospect before buying it, a guarantee is only as good as the man giving it. Raising and starting pups has it's rewards but it also has it's disappointments whether you pay $0 or $1000 the hardships can be the same the only thing a person can guarantee with a 8 week old pup is it will eat and sh!@. The most I have paid is 100 bucks the next two didn't add up to that. I would have a hard time paying more then 250 and for that much he better have ace parents. Any more then that I wouldn't take them unless they crapped gold nuggets. Then I'll take two!

If a pup has some pretty high odds of being what i think i can't live without I am willing to eat nothing but noodles and cut corners any place i can to afford it. Having said that, the most cash I ever paid was 500 then about 150 to get it here.

Of my best three dogs, I had to build dog boxes for two of them and when it was all said and done, 500 seemed cheep compared to the work i did. Would i do it again for those two dogs? You bet I would. The third one was free but i gave my buddy gas money for dropping him off. Guess he makes up for all the work on the other two.

thanks for the replys. ive got a cameron female and want to buy a cameron male but just dont know about spending 500 for a pup. maybe just find a stud dog.

hell i've burnt more gas runnin trash than i have runnin what we were after LOL
sad thing is, i believe i've spent more money on fixin trucks that break from huntin than i have on gas!

I believe puppy price is such a SMALL drop in the bucket compared to what you'll spend as time goes...

I've talked about this before but hounders are the only group paying $500 for top bred pups...Most birddog pups bred right are $1000-$2000....

Find the pup and litter you want and pay what the breeder wants. You'll get over the puppy price quick. Good luck!

The last 2 dogs I have purchased were for amounts higher than the average pup price. Typically, in the dog world, you get what u pay for. I chose to purchase these pups from well-established lines and very experienced breeders, and I have not regretted my decisions one bit. They may cost more up front, but they, more often than not, turn out to be more proficient hunters, have better dispositions, and you know what you're getting. You end up saving in the long run! That's not to say you can't find a quality pup for cheaper, however, the odds are not as favorable. To each his own!
