This year seen more precipitation in the southwest then the last several years and I am noticing a marked difference in the overall hunting. I was wondering if anyone else in the region had noticed it as well.

I'm not from your region. But I am always waiting for "changing weather conditions" to affect my hunting. And if things don't change then we dry ground hunt and ride our butts off in the saddle until we turn something up .

I am asking specifically because the lack of moisture and sand/rock makes trailing more challenging here. with the increase in moisture it's made the bobcats loose one distinct advantage.

Pegleg,

No matter where the country is....when the Scenting conditions improve and become close to optimum all our Hounds suddenly get.....BETTER!

Just my thoughts.

:D you got me, i was trying to find out if hounds have suddenly gotten better all over the southwest. mostly what i wanted to find out if the hounds men had caught the correlation and slowed down on the harvest percentage. The hounds aren't striking anymore tracks then previous years but they are finishing a much larger percentage the cats are staying in the brushy areas around the draws and washes as are the rabbits, making the beginning of races much more straight forward and the loses less frequent. I purchased two pups last year and am hesitant to grade them with the weather conditions that have been so persistent this year.
