Have any of you had problems with your dogs Anal Glands? By this I mean rubbing across surfaces with their but to try and release them. I know that they can be drained manually, but my question is how would one do it and what pressure is needed to acomplish it?
Any help here would be great.

Have your vet show you or someone who has experience. It's easy, but seeing it in person would be easiest.

My wife has a Yorkie and every time she takes her to the groomers she has the gland mashed. or they will plug up.
if you ever skinned a animal, they are on each side of the vent.

Check out this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg1yey2vN3MAnal glands/sacs is perhaps the most common cause of doggie odor that won't go away. Anal sacs are two small scent-sacs in the area of the anus. These are a type of "marking" glands. When a dog has a bowel movement, these sacs are normally squeeze, and a very smelly, oily secretion is released with the feces.
If these sacs become infected or impacted (thicker secretion than normal, can't empty properly), problems result. This can be a very painful situation when they become infected! If a dog is scared or overly excited, these glands can secrete the smelly, oily substance on the surrounding fur, causing bad odor.

yeah i had a bird dog pup get stuck in a fence one time and sprayed the area. smelled like a ring tail. probably the cheapest method would be take him to the groomers for a shampoo

the surest method would be the vet to make sure there is not a underlying cause the first time.
