I was in John Day, Or. 2 weeks ago, up Canyon Ck. Rd.(the 15 Road) and stopped to talk to one of the guys who grooms the snowmobile trails. Naturally the topic of hunting came into the conversation which then lead to my opinion of the wolf population creeping into the N.E. portion of Oregon. He said the population was getting some help from the ODFW as he had witnessed a few weeks earlier 2 collared wolves being released close to where we were standing(within a mile). This is on the S.E. side of the Strawberry Mt. Wilderness Area. I was horrified and asked him how they could do this and where the approval came from. His answer was that they apparantly didn't need any approval and they just do what they want as secretively as they want. Needless to say this guy was fit to be tied as a hunter and outdoorsman in one of the best big game hunting areas in the state. Weather his information was true, I cannot be certain, but if so, it would be a trajedy for that region. I hope someone has the means to verify this and will reply as to its validity.

I might know of someone who would probably be VERY interested in talking to the guy or might know if its true. I would be very suspect of this- as anything as "big" as a wolf release would require documentation and likely a SEPA. People say they were released secretly in WA all the time and it's not true at all.
You could call the ODFW office there and request records or even email traffic, as all the email on the DFW computers is really public information. There is no way all the beauracrats could hide this or keep it secret.

Thats what I used to think too and some of the stories are 'just so and so told so' BUT some of it is true! Some of the wolf 'recovery' program is VERY clandestine. The book that the Cat lady wrote 'Yellowstone Wolves' goes into some of it and anyone who's interested in knowing more about wolf 'recovery' should read it. You might be able to find some of it on her website as well.

Show us the proof wolfbait. I've asked before and got nothing. you ahve not even posted a picture of these wolves you say are "tame as housecats" so, what gives?

hewy cobalt my family has been on the groundruond river up by wallowa for years and my cusin has video of wolf they seen when they were steelhead fishing i will see if i can get it to post it but they have see quit a few up near wallow lake while hunting but we need to meet up and run some bears
