Mr. Bob,
We eat the loin from both Lion and big Bobcat.
Marinate the loins over night in Zesty Italian dressing, cut into medallions 1/2 inch thick, then dip into buttermilk & a beaten egg, then dredge in seasond flour..fry in HOT oil for 5 min on 1st side..3min on second....serve with steamed Asparigis, Wild rice, and a nice Merlot or Shiraz....you will find it don't get much better than that!

I hear all the time guys shooting a lion and not bringing out the meat. Hard to believe. They've obviously never tried it. Its some of the best game meat out there. Here in CO. you have to bring out the meat and prepare it for human consumption. That should be the law everywhere.

I agree it should be law everywhere. In NM you dont have to pack out lion or bear meat.
Mt lion meat is real white and resembles pork in looks and texture. Ive eatn fresh backstrap many times and its really pretty good. But after skin them stinkn lions its hard to get past that when you eat it. If you didnt know what your eating you would love it.
I have a waiting list of people wanting lion meat when we kill one

As a cook and an all around foodie I can tell you it has a similar taste and texture as pork. I cook it on the grill with a little seasoning and it is great. I do reccommend cooking it all the way through as you would pork as there is a chance you can get tapeworms from it being they are carnivores.

I ussually eat some from each cat the hunters takes, Just to give them the experience. My wife cooks it as sweet and sour over rice. Sometime just a roast. This year I started giving it to a needy family, they love it!! It is good to try some and make your own decision. I find it much better then bear, my wife won't even cook bear.

To those that want to make it a law to recover the meat; If you choose to eat a cat, that is your business, don't think that you have the right to force your belief on me. there is a reason that the meat is not considered suitable for human consumption in MOST states, and can be left in the field, cause its a F&$&ING CAT!

or to Korea or the Philippines or a bunch of other places. that said they are third world countries for the most part and have some habits i wouldn't recommend bringing home 21 day duck eggs or putting whole fish in a bucket in the yard for two months before eaten it. cat on the other hand is edible and so is dog horse etc. to each their own. the only real problem with oriental prep of cats is A. dipping a live animal in boiling water several times is f@##$d up and B. using the same butcher block you chop sewer rats on is worse. rule of thumb if your going to eat it cook it yourself or watch them cook it start to finish as a last resort drink n drink some more before eaten it. People do some odd shit when circumstances require it. so eaten cat is not even beginning to push the envelope. this post raised some thoughts primarily hands if something has hands I personally have a mental block with eating it. I have and will if hungry but its with a tight stomach and wondering mind.

I got your back on this one Larry, as we don't need more chicken shit laws aimed at hunters from the fish and game--laws that were developed mostly from people who oppose what we do anyway. If a person wants to pack it out and eat it more power to them, but forcing others is something an anti thought of years ago in Utah while addressing the Wildlife Board by saying, "they should have to eat them if they're gonna kill'em." I say eat it all if you want, bones, guts and the who enchilada but don't force it on others through legal channels...........
