Does any one own a Bushmaster Varminter Rifle in 223 cal. ? If so can you give me some feed back on pros and cons.I hunt coyots with hounds mostly.The A Bolt micro. is fine for calling but a semi auto seems to be the ticket for fast action hound hunting.

hi bearman, ive no ansers to your questions. but had one of my own. do you hunt a lot of open land? ive always used a shotgun with #4 buck. all woods here. the rifle looks nice, but its to thick ware i hunt to use one and im not sure i'd like those rifle bullets flying through the trees lol. ive a ruger 22-250 i got for yotes an never use it. the shotgun seems fine 50 yards or so but very few places that you could see a yote further and feel safe firing a rifle.if you have open land ware you'd have time to run a rifle that one looks like the ultimate to me. maybe northern maine would be ok for a rifle in places. im mid-coast maine and run hounds too.

havent owned a bushmaster but am looking at a R-15 right now and i believe there cheaper and camo , might be a better bet for a semi
or howa axiom is a sweet looking bolt action

I hunt a lot of big woods but there is a lot of chance in farm country with coyots crossing large open fields.A lot of guys here carry a shot gun and a long gun.I like a pistle for caught coyots and prefer the rifle over shot gun just cause of range limits with shot gun.

I love bolt guns,I carry a Micro Medalion in 243 shooting Win. Suppreme 55 grn.Sweet shooting but time for a change.Ive priced and researched a bunch of AR style guns and narrowed down to the Remington R15 in 243 but am leaning to the Bushmaster Varminter in 223 cal.I looked at the R15 this week and was $1300.00. The other was about $1350.00 .Both come in camo.What impresed me is the Bushmaster consisantly shoots quarter inch groups at 100 yrds.

There one in the same. Bushmaster started making the r-15's for remington. Now there're sopossed to be both making them but still the exact same guns. Can do all the switching of parts on them.

a buddy of mine bought a remington R-15, the real tree one
its a pretty smooth shooter, shoots realativly tight groups for a semi-auto
i've never been a fan of semi-auto rifles execpt i've always had a soft spot for a nice AK-47 haha
i prefer a lever action rifle myself..but to answer your question bearman, they are good guns from my little experience with them..

i realize this is an old post but i just thought id throw my 2 cents in. they are not the same gun. they are made by the same company true but the bushy has a 3 stage tapering to the barrel along with a 2 stage trigger and 24" barrel. the r15 has a 22" barrel that is not as heavy under the forend and a single stage trigger.

bearman3006 i own the same bushmaster varminter in the 223 shoots like a dream and really puts the smack down on the yotes my only dislike is it is a little heavy and you have to be careful when the casings bounce off the back window and land down your shirt boy that smarts!!!

I dont have the varminter, but I have a bushmaster with a 24 in barrel, just a little different forearm. Shoots very well, but is a little hard to get out of the truck in a hurry. I would go with a 16 in barrel if I got another one. Shorter, lighter, and still accurate. Your not doing comp. shooting, you are probably shooting at a running coyote, so quarter inch groups or 3/4 inch groups.........doesn't really matter. Thats my 2 cents.

Went with the R-15 and love it !!!
