We hunt coyotes with walker hounds in central new york. Have been considering adding a cameron hound to the pack with the idea of improving our tracking when a colder nose hound could help. Would they be fast enough ? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not on purpose!LOL One of my males loved to chase and bay up yotes when he was younger. Definately enough nose and speed there.

Not sure what you mean.
The only Cameron cross I did was 3 years ago on a Sugar Creek bitch.

I used one who was a great start dog on yotes but could not stay in the jump race for long. I use Buzz Anderson bred blueticks on yotes with very good results. Upson Blueticks do a smash up good job on em as well.

There are lines of Camerons and individual dogs that can run with a walker. Just look for how they are built and how much drive they have.

LCK, Are you having a hard time with them in the washes and holes? We decoy everything up here and I haven't used a running dog for them, but was told by someone that had run them that they had a hard time with the washes and them getting into holes.

Got a buddy that runs one with cameron blood in him and he is the fastest tree hound I've ever seen. Plenty of speed, nose and mouth. This hound can almost keep up with a running walker! hahaha

I'd say a bit more than half are ending up in holes. Had some luck smoking them out, but mostly that don't work. I have a little Leapard female that fits in with a good many of em and gives em heck, but she doesn't draw em out either, just gets her nose chewed up LOL. Seems to me the bigger males will eventually bay up, the females find a hole pretty quick.

Startedreally noticing it when they start pairring up. When jumped the females go to ground and the race ends there. Earlier in the year on the males they like to come back and challenge and run into trouble, they either leave the country quick or stand and fight. Dang good sport regardless in my way of thinkin.

In order to do that, you are gonna have to start thinkin outside the box. Once you do that, you will start catchin coyotes for fun partner.

I don't know where you get your blueticks, but I can assure you there are more than a few yotes who thought the same thing and ended up exhausted, then DEAD LOL.

i feel like my ncameron i got from harrel would make some kinda yote dog if you were to ask him. he is long lean and light on his feet. when he was 10 months or so i seen a coyote and all the dogs came back to the rig except him he left squeeling, i let him go 200 yards or so and shocked him pretty good. he came back circled the rig started opening and headed out again, so i guess you could say he is determined too. i dont think ive shocked a dog twice for the same track before.
