2nd Day Lion

Saturday we had a hunter come in from West Virginia. Here are a few pictures of the hunt. He took this tom on the second day.
Picture of camp...

I had to post this picture of the dogs. The pup in the center is a 5 month old Jeff Allen bred pup. Her name is Bailey. This is her first lion hunt. She did outstanding!

This is Cash up in the tree as usual.

This tom was about 30 feet up in an oak tree with a bunch of mistletoe creating what almost looked like a nest up there... made for some pretty good pictures in the tree.

This is our hunter, and the lion loaded on Willy.

Bency... eating it up is an under statement! Bailey was all over the place! Our expectations for Bailey were already pretty high just knowing her breeding, but after seeing her under that tree our expectations went even higher! She really is a great pup to be around too, it's really hard not to spoil her...if anyone else has a pup out of Jeff Allen's Tucker and Shorty, I'm interested in hearing how they're doing...

Thanks Jason... if we can get Bailey through her teen age months without too many REALLY long trash races we'll be doing really good! (i'm not gonna hold my breath on that one

)
Take care,
Tyler

Ya know what. I absolutly love seeing pictures like these. The mule one especially. The level of trust and training the mule has with the handle is amazing. Putting a cougar on a mules or horses back is crazy. Than on the other hand, to have they take it and be fine. Now that is just flat out awesome! Good work. Keep it up.

Thanks Jason.. It's definitely a good time. Though the dogs we were able to get a lion up a tree for our hunter, even if we hadn't he would have still had the time of his life. He actually runs bear dogs in WV, so he was very familiar with the hound environment, but he couldn't get over the fact that we free cast dogs on dry ground. He had read about it, but never seen or done it before. I know lots of guys on here do the exact same thing so I'm not saying we do anything special, but It's sure cool to take someone that has an appreciation for hounds already and then show them something new.
Daniel, honestly... the mule in that picture is "Willy" and this was his first lion ever packed out. We've packed lots of lions on most all of the other mules, and never needed Willy to pack out, but this time, we wanted our hunter to have the "full" experience

so we loaded the lion up on Willy. The first time you load a lion on a mule or horse's back can get western if you're not careful. We took a lot of time with Willy, just letting him investigate the lion, smell it, look at it. We would pick it up and put it down near him several times, just to let him know that it wasn't going to hurt him. He never offered anything! He really is a solid mule, and has packed more since this one!
On the other hand, my cousin Donnie was trying out a big stout horse that he was considering buying. As soon as Willy walked past that horse with the lion on his back and that horse got a "whiff" of that lion, he wanted no part! Donnie had a mini rodeo!

(needless to say, he didn't buy the horse)

That would have for sure been a sight to see with the new horse. I would sure like to get into the horse and hound hunting. It looks like a blast. I do some of the same style hunting of free casting but I walk lol. I love hounds and love horses, so i dont know how it could get any better! I just have to wait til I have a place that would allow me to have a horse.
