Newbie Question

Since there is no one in my area that runs coyotes with dogs I have a question maybe someone here can answer. I live in very rough mountains in southern WV. Do the coyotes in the mountains run similar to foxes and circle or are they bust out of the country straight line runners? I understand that every place is different, but what are the experiences with some of you guys in the mountains? Thanks in advance, Sonny

this probably don't help much but we've had them do both. thats where the garmin comes in handy , lets you get ahead of them.

In my experience mountain hunting is more chasin less killin its usually 50/50 they might circle or you might hit a ridge runner and end up in no mans land where there are no roads and your finding dogs for the next day or two but on the other hand we always get a chase when we hit the mountains

Sonny,
Although I'm in NEPA, I know of several groups in western PA. If you can give me an idea of where you'll be, I might be able to provide you a lead. Also, if you go to www.huntingPA.com and go to the Predator Hunting forum or Hunting Dog forum and ask that question, you might get some responses. Just keep in mind, by the time spring gobbler opens (beginning of May I believe), you won't find many guys running on the outside. Good Luck.

Cas

What part of WV are you from?

Thanks Matt and Cas!

Cas.......I am in southern WV south of Charleston. Coyote populations are high here. I will be working between Pittsburgh and Weirton, WV. I will be up there for the next 3 weeks beginning Sunday. Any leads would be great! Thanks
