Where are we with Legalizing the Garmin Astro in California? I’m thinking of upgrading my “beep-beep” system, but I won’t upgrade the “beep-beep” if I can use a GPS system within a year or two. Please inform me if you know anything. Thanks

Hi RM, Why is the Garmin Astro illegal in California ?
I went to a Garmin agency in Windhoek - Namibia and they told me they were not allowed to import these items !!! How ridiculous , they also could not supply any reason as to why not.
I hope it is not connected to any green movements as lots of hunters buy Garmin GPS units for hunting purposes. Will talk again later gotta run.

It was put into our regulations over a decade ago (before it was even available), along with not allowing treeing switches. Part of a trade off during a period of wheeling and dealing. As I understand it, at that time the houndsmen were going to lose something, and so we did. If we had to lose, we didn't lose much that time.

I THINK it was a deal so we wouldn't lose our bear training season...we lost it anyway. The decision on the gps is supposed to be made later this month.
