I'm new to Walkers but have been around dog my whole life. I'm a dog trainer for any pointing breed of dog, and we breed German Shorthair Pointers. I'm a strong believer in line breeding to strengthen a line. IMO betters your odds of producing like dogs and traits.

That said I bought 2, 1 year old littermates a couple of weeks ago. Looking at their pedigree I see LOTS/mostly Meyer's dogs going back 4and 5 generations. Does anyone have any experience with the Meyer's line. I dont really know anything about Walker bloodlines, but I like the potental I saw in the young dogs, and the guy I bought them from likes to run his dogs mostly on Bear and thats what I want them for.

So if anyone knows anything about the Meyer's dogs or bloodline, I would like to hear it, Thanks

We have bought several over the years directly out of his old dog Bam Bam and they all turned out to be culls.
Hope you have better luck with yours

Kowboy was a better reproducer then Bam Bam....ask Doug he will even admit that. Bam Bam got all the hype but Kowboy was the reproducer. I have had 1 or 2 over the years and have several friends that are running hounds out of Kowboy on bears and cougars.

Hi Mt Goat, I have a young hound out of that blood line that seems to be doing the job pretty good for me. When I first got him @ 1 yr old took him coon hunting with an older dog and treed a a couple of coon that were shot out to him and he has been doing good on coon since. I mostly use him on big game and he does really well on bear and fox and is even starting to come on pretty good on lions. He was pretty easy to break off of trash too, wouldn't say he's broke though only time will tell that. Let me know how they turn out I have wondered about this blood line also don't know much about bloodlines just hunt the dogs i like and think might have potential. I have tried to find out about bam bam, kowboy, I think it was flying hawk in his bloob and some others but really haven't find out much as there isn't much info on these lines that I have found.

I have had very limited experience with Bam Bam dogs. An old hunting buddy raised a bitch out of Bam Bam way back when...she would not tree a coon that was right in front of her.

i had two dogs out of a myers and sackett jr cross......started early and hard....both running and treeing on there own by 1 year....first one dead at 13 month due to a brain tumor...and i sold the 2nd for $1,000 at 15 months old hes still runnen solid....will run bear and coon...good cold nose and lots of gritt....

the only down fall i seen from that litter was 50% of the litter were ALAGATORS and some did not even make it to 8 months....the others were fine....some good hounds.....

Thanks for the information.

My two males have Pee Wee Kowboy on the top and the bottom. I guess we'll see how they work out, so far I like them.

Thanks again for the information.

i have a two year old female out of black hawk and susie 2 it took her a long time to show much interest, she was about a year old. but now she seems to be doing good i dont think she will ever make a super hound but she will catch her own coon and runs lions pretty good. i dont know much history about the blood line though.

My Male out of that bloodline started coming on pretty good when he got about a year old also, but when he came around boy he sure did come around. He is now about 2 1/2 yrs. old and is going good on Bear, Lion, Fox and Coon. I really haven't been able to put him on any Cats yet, but he almost started his own track in the snow with me walking him up the hill.

My Dogs are all close to Big Bam Bam and of course Kowboy. My dog PR Mojave River Kowboy is the sire to those funny looking gey pups with the blue eyes in another post. The bitch is a great great grand daughter to Pee Wee Kowboy. But I have brought in some good new blood.
I have had good luck by more carefully breeding the problems out of the dogs such as hip problems. I keep pups longer before I sell them because of this. I try not to sell them if they have bad hips.
That is a big Problem with that line as I hear and find.
Many of my dogs are great if not the best dogs people own and I sell many to repeat customers. I have sold to Europe, central America Mexico and all over the states.
This must be too close a pairing..LOL

what kind of hip problems are you talking about my? I've noticed myers female kind of carries her hips funnie she never has had any problems with them so i haven't worried to much but something just doesn't look right. Also how good of nose do your myers walkers have?

The Meyers dogs I have had about one in five at first but now only one in twenty shows signs of hip dysplacia. The tell tail would be the dogs start to limp or hop on thier back legs.
But by introducing some new blood from good hounds the problems are more minor. I knoiw people who have great hounds that run bear strong but seem to have the symptoms.
I most often nutter or spay the dog and give them away to people looking for companion dogs or on farms. They do well most of the time.I never breed a dog that I haven't had xrayed or ultra sound.
The nose may not be the coldest but it's most often very good and the brains make up for it.
I only breed smart dogs. If they have a good nose but no sense I don't breed them.
I have to lock my doors because two of my dogs will come in if they think we are gone or asleep. They know where the biscuits are stored and they have cleaned us out. Two other dogs will climb the fence if the spa is on and we find them sitting in it like guest at a bar-b-que.
Another jumps in the car and fools with the guages, dials and steering wheel. Not sure but I think she wants to drive.
Another thing about the Myers line, even though they tend to be big hounds they are agile and fairly fast.
My dog Bow is the fastest hound I have ever seen.
