I had a B&T bitch get bred last night and since I don't want or need the pups right now, I was gonna give her an abortion shot. The vet that I talked to said that there was some risk involved in giving it. Just wondering if anybody else has used the shot and if they had any trouble with it.

We took one in about 5 years ago and had it done...she had a healthy litter of 7. My only experience with it.

If you know any woman that is taking Premarin a hormone replacement therapy pill, you can give the bitch one of the pills and she will not take. This has to be done within the first 24 to 48 hours. It will keep her in heat longer, but she will not take. If it is done after the first 24 to 48 hours you will probably have pups.

Had one done a couple years ago from a coon hunting vet and the only vet in these parts that will give it. Didn't know if there was an accidental breeding but didn't want to take a chance.

Vet told me it's a once in lifetime shot as it could really mess up a female.

He gave her the shot which started her heat cycle completely over.

The dog was never the same again mentally after the shot...........will never give another female the shot. I have read and heard from others with same results after the shot on their females.

I would strongly advise against it! I had a dog take a 5 shots to abort a litter. I ended up putting her down for aggression. She was in in no way aggressive prior to the shot. In fact her name was "Baby".......She was never right after.........

This can go so many ways...

Upon advice of my vet, I had the shot given to a dog... She had no issue with it, acted fine after it and raised a healthy litter from her..

My vet says he has given it numerous times in 30 years of being a vet and hasn't seen any ill effects from it..

But I have heard horror stories from it...
