I have herd of people using pigs to train dogs at a young age.for runing and baying to see if the dog has what it takes to be a good dog.would this realy work.and what tipe of pig would you use.

I have sent my dog to wildspirit guide he has a hog pen 70 acres it teaches them to bay cast in to other dogs. I know I was impressed with what I saw the dog learned while she was there!

you use very rough wild hogs on a young dog so they learn not to be too catchy before they get on bear & get killed. it works for some people & some people don't care for it.

i run my dogs on hogs all the time and every so often get lucky to go bear hunting with them and they seem to take to it well.some of the other guys down here do the same.however a good friend of mine had one of the most gritty plotts i have ever hunted with and was just plain hog crazy.he took him up one year and you could not melt him down and poor him on a bear he wanted no part of it.and we have also got some dogs from the bear hunters that were not making the cut turn out to be good hog dogs .so that being said you may not always be able to tell about the dog on one or the other.

It depends on your area, as for me in wi, we have no hogs, I just returned from the south running wild hogs with my young dogs. It works excellent, even a pen, there is trailing,bay, packing to,rigging, many great things come from it. my personal opinion is, if they dont start on hogs, they wont bear, in my experience from past several years. If I lived in area's with natural hogs, then It may be a different story, but for me, it really works great, they get game in their mouths at a young age, etc.
