There are a few guys on here that have Jagds. I use mine mostly on coyotes or I should say that is their main job for me.

one of my uncles had two jags, and he as pictures of one of them hanging off a bears nose, not joking if i had them i would post them, they never trailed much but they were fierce dogs, seen them fight a coon on the ground, one thing i didn't like about them, was they seemed to like to fight with the other dogs at the tree, almost had one of my dogs stretched, and i know that the jag was the one to start it.

I use them mostly for denning but also for decoying.
Not all jagds are mean towards other dogs and alot of them have pretty good noses.
Just like with most breeds, you need to find the good ones.

I had a couple of them about 10 years ago. They weren't very well known back then. The ones I ran weren't at all mean to other dogs anytime. They got along fine with my hounds. I used them on bobcats. Around here, we have a lot of rocks and about 50% of the time you ended up in a rock pile. Two of them had no problem pulling out a kitty that thought he was safe. Thought I had some pictures but can't find them. I'll try and post them later.

I had a trio of them. The male was out of Jim Glovers stuff in Texas and the two females were Von ? bred. Gritty, tough, mean little dogs. Would tree with the hounds and had a good nose. I got rid of them though because they were dog fighting machines. The three of them strung out one of my hounds. That was the last straw. Bad Jose's. I would love to find some that wernt dog aggressive.

I had one from Glover. He was a pretty big dog and he would kill a hound. If he could have faught with himself he would have . He was mean to the bone. That was about 20 years ago.

Here is a picture of my pup(5 months old) Short Mag (Shorty) and Clyde a Jagd/Pat/Jack cross

This coyote was dead before they got to it, but he is not affaid to mix it up with a live one.

I think if you were planning on using them with hounds, I would get one as a pup and raise it up with your other dogs. And preferably some hounds that have a gentle disposition.

i agree with Full Cry Hounds, maybe if you raised them from a pup they wouldn't be so bad, and i know i have a slight dislike for them because of my dog. I also think that if you could get one from fighting with dogs, that they would make good bear dogs. I've never seen one use its nose, but my uncles Jags were just there for bears on the ground.

I don't know that you can judge a whole breed of dogs from your expeirence with 2 dogs that were bad.

Your right i can't, and i don't usually, but out of all these years i've only had one dog about get strecthed, and i didn't mean to judge them, just giving my input on my experience with them. They are probably like any other breed.

At one point, I saw the jagd breed go from a good breed of dog to a breed with more dog aggressive dogs in the breed but I think that the breeders today are breeding that out and putting alot more nose into them too.
I have used mine on bear and they will sure enough get in there and grab hair. I had one hold on about 30 feet up the tree as the bear went up. They are amussing, but I wouldn't ever get them just for bear. They are more of a underground dog. But being terriers they are very smart and will hunt about anything you put them on.
One thing about Jagds is that you will either love them or you will really hate them.
The only other animal that people have such strong feelings about is a mule.

when denning coyotes, do yours bolt them, draw them or do you have to dig to them?

Boy the Jag sounds interesting. My first thought is this, a smart bear dog will work a bear in a bad situation or area, such as thick stuff etc, get him worked out of there, and then bite. If the jag goes head first, I would be worried, the hounds would, in the place they shouldnt, and get worked over to, knowing better??
