Hey all,


Just wondering what ya'll have in your "first aid" kits for bear hunting. Things like staple gun, blue kote etc.

Just wondering what stuff people use that works well for them and what is a "must" to have handy.

Here is what I carry in my pack at all times for the hounds:
Skin Staple Gun
Q-Tips
Electrical Tape
EMT Gel
Gauze Pads
Cotton Rounds
Vet Wrap
Styptic Powder
Tweezers
Benadryl
Dog Aspirin
Vetbond

I overdue it a little but I will error on the side of caution.

Fish AntiBiotics is a must!

Better throw in some sutures and a good sedative. I have yet to use a sedative but there are several prescriptions that aren't too hard to get ahold of and sure would help when sewing up a dog or pulling porky quills. There is an aeresol can of saline solution that helps for rinsing wounds. Peroxide, rymadyl (prescription pain killer and anit-inflamatory), fishmox (anitbiotic) and a battery powered beard trimmer/razor are also a must. There is also a local numbing agent (not sure if its prescription) that could be used along with benadryl for sewing or pulling. Sewing a dog is easy when they are sedated and sure beats paying a vet bill. Suture kits can be found on eBay or if you know anyone in medical supplying as the out-of-date sutures are discarded. Saturday (6-11-2010) we treed a sow and three cubs first thing but had to call it quits because one of the dogs got cut on some barbed wire and we didn't have any sutures or sedative. It would have been a quick fix and we could have kept hunting the other dogs. There ended up being a $250 vet bill and a pretty shotty stitch job.
