afterbirth issue fyi

My female had 9 pups sunday night thru monday at noon. I noticed monday evening she was still having contractions. I figured this was her trying to get everything cleaned out. Checked on her tuesday morning she was still having contractions so I started paying a bit more attention. By noon she hadn't eat her morning food and was still having issue's. First thing that came to mind was a pup still inside so I went to see the vet. Apparently, she is having trouble getting all of the placenta/afterbirth out.

She has an infection but we are working on it. Bottomline, pay attention. I'm not out of the woods yet but if I had waited another 24 hrs I would have lost all of them for sure. Sometimes letting nature take it's course results in death, don't let it happen if you can help it. Again, pay attention. Hope this helps.
