These guys rig pretty well. But i personally like to make the dogs and myself work a little harder. Some times I wish i had a muzzle to put on my female until we got to were i want to hunt, and she aint a babbler, she's been honest most of the time. Gets the job done when i drop her.

from a hunt last week

That's the only way we run coons here in maine. We can cover a lot of ground. Gas prices suck but with a good coon dog we get a lot of strikes and tree a lot of coons

Thant is how I hunt 80% of the time. I can cover more area in a less amount of time with them on the box. We have good roads that follow rivers in the coast range that are fun to hunt. I will box them in the light rain ( as long as it is not to cold) and they do well. Good luck and have fun...

Rigging for coons is a good way to teach dogs to rig for bear; BUT it is very aggrivating to be out bear hunting early in the morning and rigging a coon....Makes you wana beat your dogs....lol

Heck.. We've rigged them in a snow storm and managed to put them up
But yeah.. I've rigged for coon quite a bit and quite succesfully.. I would prefer to do it that way most of the time

That how we do it unless we can't drive into a spot. Dogs can strike off the board even a 20 mph. Run hotter tracks to I think. Although I have had my btn strike and not bark on a track just locate and tree. Must have winded it just right I figured. Anyway cover more ground to. I do road a bit to partly cause I don't have time to hunt that much and the dogs get more exercise that way.

Curman,
Was the box on the Toyoto made by the dogboxman (Mike) in Va? That sure looks like some of his fine work.
