I have always been interested in become a hunting guide but never really knew where to get started. Then today I came across a website that was for a hunting guide school. So I was wondering if any of you guys have ever gone to one of these schools or known anyone who has gone to these schools. I was hoping to find out if going to these school actual help you find a job as a hunting guide and if they are really worth the money. Any other info I could get about them would be great. Thanks in advance for any info.

Here in maine its pretty damn near impossible to pass the oral board without taking a course first. I took the course a few years back. Lots of info that you'd never think you would of needed to pass the test. I sent in my application this past week. I called the guy I took the course with and he's letting me sit through his course again next month for free. Cost me 400 a few years ago. JMO. Its a must!

To become a guide in the eastern US, you're going to have to take an extensive test, the Pennsylvania book is about 2 inches thick, and I'd heard the Maine test was tough years ago. But I suspect you're talking about the western US guide schools. I figure it's just a way for the outfitter to get some free labor, and make a buck off you at the same time. If you want in, you're probably going to have to start at the bottom like anything else. JMO
