hunting over bait

i have 3 dogs that im training on bear,was wondering if i ran them on bear that came to a bait pile would be a good way to start them or not.thanks

I agree with Ike. A track is a track as long as it is fresh. Just check the regs where you hunt to make sure that it is legal running off baits.

True a track is a track BUT depending on the age of the dog if all he is ever taught to run is HOT tracks he will have a harder time wanting to settle down and run an older track. So my advise is be careful on running only smoken hot tracks. :beer

Checking baits is a great way to get your dog started.If you can,put a camera on the bait to make sure that a bear was the last animal at the bait.This will also let you know how old the track is.You will get all differant age tracks from a bait, from hot tracks to tracks so cold that you can't run them and everything in between. Just like rigging. Good luck.

you should be real carefull in NH running of Bait its not leagal in NH
