According to the legal terminology in the state of Washington pursue and hunt mean the same thing.

RCW 77.15.240
Unlawful use of dogs — Public nuisance — Penalty.

(c) During the closed season for a species of game animal or game bird, negligently fails to prevent the dog from pursuing such animal or destroying the nest of a game bird.

RCW 77.15.245
(2) Notwithstanding RCW 77.12.240, *77.36.020, 77.36.030, or any other provisions of law, it is unlawful to hunt or pursue black bear, cougar, bobcat, or lynx with the aid of a dog or dogs.

I do it all the time but I don't know if its legal to. You think it would be legal to road your dogs. But I just do it on a old road that know ones ever on.

I have road my hounds out of season here in wa,but have not seen a game warden when doing so, but like someone else said, its a good idea on old roads no one goes down, and do NOT have any weapons with you-it helps if you have the kiddos with you as well. Good luck!
