Why is a barrel worse?
I was about to buy a few of these for my dogs:

Seems like a good (and economical) idea. Maybe I shouldn't and instead go with something else?

they say that the barrel is worse all year around, hotter in the summer colder in the winter, and we had two dogs die from unknown causes in a really cold winter and my dad think that the barrel killed them but we don't know for sure, one dog had a swelled up leg, and the other was really weird we have no idea why he died.

If you burry the barrel in the ground they about the best dog house. if you leave them above ground they dont have any insulation and they do get too hot and too cold

We use them and the dogs do lay outside in the heat of the day. We have them under the many trees that we have so it's no big deal. What I was wondering is how much better those wooden wine/whiskey barrels would be. I think I'm going to try them as they should have better insulation
