bust out the duct tape!!! I have never had to do it, but it saved a buddy of mine from having to put a bullet in his dogs head. personaly I just have a set of blueprints rolled up. when I get a young dog that barks a little, I will spend a few nights running out every time they bark and slappin everything in sight. You really don't even have to hit the dog much just scare the holy shit out of them. the key is to be consistant with whatever you do. every time they bark go raise hell. don't take more than a few days to get them over it. the other thing is let them out or off the chain every day. tired dogs don't bark much. I live right in the the middle of a subdivision in the city and I can't have a dog bark cuz I'm only allowed to have 2 dogs here and I have ten to twenty most of the time. if my neigbors only knew. even if it's only for five minutes let them get out and run every day.

I once lived on a 0.11 acre lot in the center of town, keeping the dogs quite was a necessity. Fortunately, the neighbors closest to me were pretty cool. They would yell at the dogs and even spray a garden hose over the fence from time to time. After 4 or 5 years they were able to tell which dog was barking and yell its name. People a couple doors down weren't so easy going. We battled with it for almost ten years.
Shock collars, garden hose, and as Houndnem said scare the crap out of them. The coolest thing I saw was a guy in Oregon had a noise activated sprinkler head. Dogs would get to barking and the sprinkler would blast water at them. I am not sure how it worked but maybe someone else on here would. From what I understand a Red Ryder BB gun works good too, but it would suck to hit one square in the eye.
I bought a place with a little property and I actually enjoy a bark now and then as the dogs are playing in the kennel. The wife is still pulling her hair out! I get one little yap and she starts screaming that I have to sell dogs. I think she is way louder than those dogs.

Why is the bark collar not working? Not strong enough?
I have a dog here who is really trying my patience (if I hadn't been looking for 3 years now for a dual purpose national level dog, she would be gone) She can't keep her mouth shut. The shock collar seemed to work, but we were getting the results of a dog who had to wear a shock collar and be shocked about 12 hours a day (she doen't bark at night) she was starting to loose hair and all that nasty results of a collar..
If I put the tritronics bark collar on her she would just keep screaming and screaming and couldn't figure out to turn it off.. The neighbors kept coming over thinking I had a dog stuck in the fence or something
So, I bought a muzzle.. But it is getting pretty hot, so I figured things have got to change or she is gone.. She is starting to come along hunting really well too, so I kinda want to keep her around a bit longer.. So.. this is pretty damn mean, but.. I put the muzzle on her (she was learning to bark with it on, just muffled) and turned the bark collar all the way up.. And left it on her..
She spontaniously combusted for about 8 minutes.. This time is was muffled and nobody can hear it except me watching from the porch.. Now.. She has it figure out and I'll be damned if she doesn't keep her mouth shut when the collar goes on.. I guess it just took her a little bit more to figure it out..
A hose works well for barking dogs.. Consistancy, no matter what you do, is what works the best..

I like a bark collar, but like the others said, the hose will handle it . Stick with it so you don't send the dog any mixed signals . Most dogs straighten out all right . Good luck .
