You may be a little disapointed in those tree dogs when it comes to coyotes .

There are a few pens in NY, but it is not wise to give the info of pens out on the computer with anti's watching. If you want you can pm me some people who can vouch for you and i can give you some info on them.

I also agree with Shooter. As far as those tree dogs go, I'd expect them to do just fine. I've seen alot of tree hounds of all breeds do the job on yotes.

I dont want to start anything but I wouldnt trade my tree hounds for any running dogs to hunt coyotes here in the U.P. Hunted with both, takes a hell of a hound to stop coyotes consistently here

as much as i hate too, i agree with shooter 100%. where in ny are you located ? there`s alot of yote-hound hunters in ny so it shouldn`t be hard to meeet up with a few. also trust me tree hound do very well on yotes.

if you call harvesting 50 to eighty coyotes a winter with treeing dogs a dissapointment than ya i would look to other breeds .

i`m taking this post from my website, because i think it sums it up perfect. i do think that there are plenty of treehounds that do just as good of job as running hounds on yotes.
these 2 quotes are from my home site, so don`t look back for them on here.
jeremiah wrote:im just thinking iv got blues and treeing walker and a redbone cross to me they all got there goods and bads some guys use running walkers only because they r walkers lol one guy told me the best hounds he has ever used was julys so what do yall use?
missouriyotehunter wrote:This question gets asked a dozen times every year on here and there is no perfect answer. It depends on how you hunt (gun or catch), what type of terrain you hunt and what the conditions are like in the area you hunt.
I prefer a treehound running hound cross myself. The running hound puts more hours, speed and fight in them and the treeing hound puts more nose and tracking ability in them. I dont shoot but have guys in the group who do so this cross works both ways they're fast enough to put several up and also have good noses to run on those bad days and keep a race going for hours in the worst of conditions.

KC , I respect your answer and i don't disagree about being able to get coyotes with treedogs , but do you think they can keep up with a running walker ? By the way i'm not talking about crossbreeds i'm talking about the purebreds . And a july is a running hound not a tree hound .

grouse, yes i know a july is a running hound, it was just i quote i took. as for a tree hound being able to stay up with a running hound, yes. i see it all the time. i run my redbones with running hound all the time and they`re always right up in the front. once again it comes back to terrain, conditions and nose. no matter how fast a hound can run, it can only go as fast as it nose can take them. i know some might not agree, but i`ve seen it for years. what part of pa. do you run in ?

kc, we run up around the kane area , i want to get up to the pen when the weather cools . I also believe as far as nose is concerned ,it boils down to guy's breeding inferior dogs . some guy's just breed to get pups not to better the breed . JMO .

grouse, have fun up at the pen when it cools down. i might have another members run- cookout there this fall. we had a spring get together, so might as well do the fall as well again. maybe a pig roast this time, but all the walleye was great this sprng. i also agree that people need to breed to better what they have. i have a question, with all these great running hounds in ny or pa. why does everyone go up to wis., mn. or any other state out in the mid-west every year to get new hounds? to me it seems something is lacking in the breeding of running hounds around here.

grouse you will have to ask the strout boys downeast maine they run my line treeing dogs on coyotes and bobcat i dont run coyotes but know they get that many every winter from after deer season to last snowfall .my other friends that use running dogs dont get as many they live in appleton maine . there running dogs are getting put back to the truck , there going silent from being scared , dont have nose enough on those cold hard conditions in winter . have i seen a running dog that met the criteria the answer is yes his name was ringo owned by mike dodd of union maine catch kill coyote dog he was the exception to running dogs around here. so pick your strain dont generalize all treedogs or running dogs being the same . i know there are running dogs out there that would impress me .
