Poormans Cake

POOR MANS CAKE

3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. soda
1/3 c. cocoa
1 tsp. salt (opt.)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. vinegar
1 c. oil
2 c. cold water

Sift flour, sugar, soda, cocoa and salt in a 9"x13" ungreased pan. Mix together with a fork. Make 3 "holes" in dry ingredients. Pour vanilla in one hole, vinegar in one and oil in all three. Pour cold water over entire mixture. Blend thoroughly with a fork. Do not beat. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minuets or until springs back to touch. Good with either hot caramel frosting or chocolate frosting.

Made as Directed.

what does the vinegar do for the cake ?? or does it come out in the flavor??

I do very little pastry cooking.
I read this and the idea sounded strange.
You cannot taste the vinegar.
I made one the middle of december.
I was told you cannot get this from a box.
Better half had me make two for christmas get togethers.

Try the peanut butter frosting.
It makes it.
