I was wondering if it is common for hounds to have dew claws on the back feet? I just had pups and most of them have dew claws all the way around. Just wanted your guys and gals take. Thanks

I've seen it mostly in Walkers and Black and Tans, or grade/cross dogs that have a litte of either in them. It's fairly common. If they are less that 3 days old I would cut them off though. They tend to get hung up and broken more than the front dewclaws.

Our dogs throw this rear dew claw junk too.... dont have any cur in them. Either way cut them off along with the front ones and you'll have happier dogs.

Take care, jason

It comes from my male who is lipper bred. Both sets of pups ended up with them. One of the females is registered walker and the other female walker has a little trig in her background. But no cur. I just haven't seen it before.

Yep, I have Lipper dogs, and they crop up every other litter or so. I had 2 out of 5 last litter. I cut em off at 2 days old.

I cut them off the registered litter but didn't realize it on the grade pups till they were to old ill just have to let the people who gets the pups know. I just found out that schmercials queen was known for four dew claws. Maybe misspelled.

We just took some tweezers that lock. Put them right behind the dew claw and scraped off with a knife. My buddy did it for me.
