I was checking out my 8 month olds foot pads and on one of them he has a deep crack or cut. I dont know what it is but there no blood no infection and he walks and runs fine. Its just a deep crack in the pad. He is walking fine but Im worried that he could get a pebble stuck in it or it can split more and get infected?
Im like his dad and have a lot of money and time invested in the lil guy. This crack or cut concerns me.
Thanks for any help... Robb

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God - 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)
It may be from an old crack that healed up in an open position. Sometimes they will even lose a small chunk of pad that doesn't fill in when it heals. I wouldn't worry about it if the dog doesn't seem unusually bothered when you put pressure on it. If it is big enough for something to get caught in you should make a point of checking it every time the dog comes in from running or hunting to make sure nothing has happened to it.
Just keep an eye on it.. I wouldn't worry about it. My older dogs have a few cracks in theirs from the miles being put on..
I know my brother had heels that crack.. He puts super glue on his heels.. You might call a vet and see if that would work for the dog.. I bet it would..

its fine to put superglue on something like that. Or, if you want to pay more, go to the Dr. Scholl's section of the drugstore and get some heel crack filler.
I play the cello, and get cracks like that in my fingertips. Cellists are always putting superglue on them.
Superglue is a good emergency supply to carry--it is closely related to the surgical glues they use on humans. You can use it to glue shut an open wound with a flap. It won't necessarily heal pretty, but it will keep the dog alive until it can be sewed up properly.
Superglue can be removed with acetone nail polish remover. If the wound is still open, this will hurt like heck. However, if the vet needs to knock out the dog to sew it up neatly, its the quickest way to get the superglue off.
My thinking is as times goes by there pads will become more tough..my hounds is almost 9 month Im guessing as he gets older they will toughen up
