new to the sport. waiting for the new marshall system so i got a used f&l system with 2 collars off ebay. i think they are johnson collars from looking at all the other pictures. my question is this. everything seems to work fine but 1 of the collars says battery 8/06. im assuming the person replaced battery then. other collar doesnt say anything. should i send them in for battery replacement before saeson starts just to be safe? how much does it cost? how long does it take? and how can i tell if they are johnson?

I would drive them about 1.5 miles down the road, if they still hit(beep) pretty good I would go ahead and use them. Here in TX it costs about 50 dollars for a battery and takes about two weeks. I would take them to the nearest tracking system dealer and let them tell me the details of the collars.
If the collars haven't been used much you might get a couple of years out of them on the batteries that they have in them.
Hope this helps and good hunting

Don't know if the johnson collars are anything like wildlife collars, but I just get replacement battiers from radio shack.

they are sealed up tight. looks like a c or d battery. but no way to get into them. i drove them down the road about half mile and 1 beeps loud the other 1 beeps but not as strong. i'll play with them when i get off work. take them out in the woods. just got them today. thanks for the advice.

They actually have to cut the collars apart to get to the battery. The people I use send them off to Johnson's factory to have a battery put in them. I have seen batteries last 5 or 6 years. We were using them about three times a week on average.
