Just figured I would post this in the Gereral Forum. The health section doesn't seem to have much action lately.

Been to the Vet twice in the last 72 hours. The 13 week old walker/blk-n-tan cross is down and in great pain. The pain seem to be in the front two legs mostly. The Vet said it was Panosteitis. Medium to large breed dogs are mostly commonly effected.

The overview of Panosteitis is a self-limiting painful condition affecting one or more of the long bones of young, medium to large breed dogs that is a characterized clinically by lameness and increased denity of the marrow cavity on X-ray causing great pain. He also isn't eatting.

Ive never seen or heard of such a thing. The pup is on Previcox 57 mg once a day and Tramadol 50mg for pain twice daily.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Have any of you seen this in hounds?

Pano is commonly seen in Basset Hounds....Haven't see much on it in the bigger hounds being mentioned on the forums -- I am sure some have had the problem.

Here is some more reading on Pano if you haven't read this one:

Hip dysplasia used to not do be in the hound vocabulary, but now seeing more and and more it with the coonhounds.

The problems of overbreeding is starting raise it's ugly head.

From what I've been told it's much like bad growing pains for the hound. It will go just as fast as it came. Time will tell but this is no fun.
