just curious as to everyones opnion on whether or not females have a higher percentage rate of getting whipped off bears after a good licking then males do. seems from what my small little brain has gathered that i can think of more females that were once good dogs but got whipped and quit then i have heard of males doing it?

Lets look at the bigger picture. Because I and many more know that it is DOG not gender that makes the difference, but lets look at it this way.
What is your pack made up of mostly?
How often do you hunt?
How many bad bears do you get on that would force a dog to get bear whooped?
Dogs don't get bear whooped when the bear runs and goes right up a tree, they get it from having their little brains shook around by a very mean bear.
Some dogs get on their first bear and go right for the head and it is the only time they will ever get that close, but they will still get in there or bay. Other dogs may get bit and sowed up their whole lives and never give bears respect.
The dogs that never respect bears are what dad and I looked for, we don't go for bay dogs, we go for catch dogs, some will show bears respect as they age, others will be like Sky and have such a hatred for bears they are willing to get tore up and in the vet just to bring the bear a little pain.
I think if they get bear whooped they turn into a cull because they have a missing link and are no longer the full circle, they might be called a "pup trainer" after that
Just my opinion of coarse, I think their are males and females of all animals that should be feared.

you are right. most of our bear dogs are males, we hunt a lot and not very many of our bears tree, most of them bay up on the ground. it doesn't happen very often either but i do know of it happening, we have a cold nosed male dog right now that will run as hard as any dog there is but if that bear stops on the ground , he will leave it. he didnt get hurt his self, 6 other dogs got killed on a bear and i guess seeing that did him in.

I am not sure I would want the vet bills, being 3 hour to the nearest vet those type dogs would not last long out here.
Its my opinion is you don't have to have Kamikazi dogs to make bears climb in most terrain.

I agree, vet bills are not something we got a lot of for most dogs, Sky, Tracer, Cabo, they did get the vet bills.
Dad knew how to sow dogs up pretty good and had the stuff to do it, when our pack got ripped apart by the javelinas, none had to go to the vet, we sowed them up on the tailgate and Dirty Deeds had to come home, but was in good shape the next morning.
We have video last year of two of our plotts, a male (Deeds) and a female (Cielo) with a bear that was shot a few times with bow that ran out of the tree, after turning all the dogs loose, they get it in a wash, it is sitting down still trying to fight dogs, Deeds and Cielo are the only dogs that will get close, so close Deeds sneaks up and grabs his back foot and pulls on it, Cielo made a couple attempts, but like most animals, females are smarter then males

No matter the breed, I would have been embarrassed if someone else's dogs were closer to the bear then mine, it's just the way I am, doesn't make the dogs any better, just makes them suite me better

we call them suiccide dogs, they dont last long here. the terain is to thick for them to get away from the bear when he charges them.
