NM Youth Hunt

I took out my neighbor Dan, and his son Tim this past weekend. Tim is 11 years old, and has yet to draw an elk or deer tag in 3 years of applying........we needed to get this kid hunting.
Being the youth mentor that I am, showed this kid the steep side of every canyon East of the Pecos. The dogs showed him an elk race, and how they get fried on a deer rig. And we also showed Tim an honest to god- bear rig, race, and tree.
Despite leaving my shock controller, video camera, and pistol in the truck......we took off after the dogs. I did have my tracking box, but forgot to pull magnets on a couple collars. There was a roar of dogs 2 canyons south of our ridge, and we found them treed on a nice (younger) boar, Tim pulled the trigger, and thankfully his dad had a camera in his pack.
Tim hiked his butt off, made his shot count, and put his safety back on instinctively.
I hope he's hooked on bear hunting with hounds! -Ethan
