I saw this today and thought wow that is a pretty small bear taking down a pretty nice whitetail. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? I did not think such a small bear would even attempt to take on such a large buck. I learn something new every day :D. I honestly wonder if the deer was hit by a car or something of that nature because this just does not seem like it would be a common accurance to me but who knows and im sure this happens more than a guy realizes.

I would bet it got hit by a car and mr opportunistic came along. Bigger older boars learn about the fawn and calf crop, but generally speaking bears like the easy meal. Just my thoughts.

Neat picture. Go Bear!

In two Elk calf studies in NM, black bear were the number 1 killer of elk calves accounting for about 40% of the calves killed(coyotes are a close 2nd. Mainly kill them when there in the first week. Bear are much better killers than people give them credit for.
