i used to live in Spokane in the early 90s, but didnt hound hunt back then, probably because i didnt know any hound hunters. this is a great sport, i too archery hunt but have pretty much lost interest in hunting everything else except bears, which i hunt with my hounds. i used to bait bears alot but it got boring and there was no challenge in it, pretty much the same with deer. to me there is nothing quite like strikeing a bear off the truck and watching a race on the garmin then hikeing in to your dogs to see the bear in the tree and watch the hounds giving him hell.

I used to live in Spokane too but I moved back home which is just north about an hour and a half. I dont know about guys in spokane but there is other hound hunters near you. I was pretty surprised to see how many there was, since alot of hunting is illegal. Welcome to this addiction!!!

I recently moved from Spokane . . . wish you had moved there sooner. I was only there for school a couple of years, and I'm fairly new to hounds, but I'll share what I learned. I couldn't find any houndsmen in the immediate area . . . but there are a few houndsmen West of there. There are also lot of houndsmen just over the border in Idaho. As far as hound hunting goes, you probably already know that Washington state has a headlock on the sport. Darn Bunnyhuggers from Seattle! Not sure what type of hound hunting you prefer: I never had any luck at drawing those limited entry lion tags. You can't legally chase the bobcats or bears. There are some good coon hunting areas along Roosevelt Lake, Columbia, and other major rivers . . . but it's sort of hit and miss. I hunted a few times out to Fish Trap Reservoir, but the coons moved out pretty quickly. The Medical Lake area has a lot of coons, but it's best to find someone with a big spread of private land before heading out there. If you want to chase bigger game in Idaho then you can try to draw one of the non-resident hound pursuit permits . . . you have to put in nearly a year ahead of time. If you want to tree Washington big game, either carry a warden detector or wait until you can draw a lion tag. I was a wimp and played it safe.

I live just 25 miles west, and i do alot of bullshitting, dog jockeying and beer drinking! I really don't like hound hunting, to much work! if you want to actually hound hunt you might keep looking, but if you need someone to tell you hound lies, or i'm sure i can sell you a dandy(i have been known to do some trading) or if you work for a beer disturbutor get ahold of me! Just like jcb says sledding is a little tough around here!

Ya i figured that most of the hunting would be hush hush. An old timer that useto hunt with hounds said u kinda have to be an outlaw if im ganna get into this sport. I could only wish that I would get drawn for one of those tags. My dog and me went coon hunting for the first time it was a fricken blast treed 2 my hart was pumpin the whole time. went over to idaho during bear tranning season had a coupple of long races but never got one up a tree. live to the east about 10min from spokane.I wonder if we will ever be able to hunt bear and bobcat with dogs and wont have to put in for a stupid lottery for cougar in washington. but i guess im just dreaming!!!!

I was told by F&g that you could purchase a hound handler permit with a resident lic. That includes a lifetime resident lic. Was I told wrong?
