I know an old (75) cowboy/lion hunter from Cochise county Az. He was a foreman on the Gray Ranch in the Bootheel of N.M. for many years and hunted lion pert' near everyday, in the Animas Mountains. He new the Lee brothers well, and has mentioned a few old-timers like Sewell Goodwin and others. Ornery little guy, say's he used to ride into the Lee brothers camp and they would have dog's running ever' which way, said he hunted with them and half their dogs would run trash all day. He had the worlds best dogs and everyone else's was shit. He's got some great story's and I think he's pretty truthful, but he sure didn't think much of other lion hunters, even some of the legends. Oh, his name is Del Gooden..

Never heard of him or met him but by your desription we may know him under different name. LOL! Are you sure he is not from the Basin in Utah? LOL!

Just kidding but when I hear a person say they are the greatest and their dogs are the greatest and even run down the top men in the game you can pretty well bet that the little man syndrome would have got him throwed our of Clell Lee's camp pretty dang quick. Maybe that's why he is still so sore. LOL!

i had a chance to talk to george pavey last night. he hunted with the lee's for a few years. i asked george if during that era a lion hunter named del gooden ever rode into camp or spent any time. george said he never met the guy or recognized his name.

george did say that he was done hunting in about 1961 and dale hunted many years after and could of very easily been after 1961

It was after 61. this guy also said that Dale Lee had a contract to hunt the lions on Fort Huachuca and after a year had only killed one lion. He say's the Lee's were phonies..

Thats why the Lee's were legends in the world of hound hunting and no one has heard of this guy. Sounds like a little bit of jealousy. This guy is obviously a turd!

It is a matter of post record at the Wildlife Dept. of Fort Hauchuca each lion that was accounted for during that period. I am sure if you check the records you will see that Dale caught numerous lions during this period and usually had several of them alive in his little zoo compound there at the post.

this guy is a bullshit artist and he is spinning tales about guys that are in the grave. And in reality that is not very nice. Buy it if you wish but I have sat for hours with men that spent huge blocks of time hunting with the Lees and let me tell you most of them take their hats off when they talk about them. Hell nobody is perfect and sure stories may get stretched a bit in time but ask any hound man in the big game world who Dale Lee or Clell Lee was and they can tell you. Ask a whole big internet forum who this mad LITTLE MAN is and nobody can tell you.

Nuff said!

+1 mr leonard....a new arrival to this site goes by spottedcat. send him a pm and ask if the lee's were phonies. he actually hunted with dale and clell. he is a pretty civilized man and i'm just guessing he would'nt have slept on a dirt floor and under the stars for a few years to follow any thing other than a class act. he probably would of drug up if he only seen one lion in the years spent with the lee's....
