What do you all use at bear camp to tie your dogs out? I have seen guys use their leashes, pickets, long lines, and even put them back in the box when not in use.
We picket our mules and dogs out.

I like to keep them picketed during the day. At night I load them up in the box to sleeps, it help keeps them warm.

X 2 ya seems like they get more rest in the box and stay warmer, in the day we stake em out under a tree.

It just depends on how long I’m staying and where I’m at but I like to set up individual tie-outs. I use chains with a ring in one end with a swivel and snap at the other. Go around tree and run chain back thru the ring. I have varying lengths for bigger dogs and bigger trees. Can go around tree three or four times before you go thru the ring if need be to shorten them up. They really don’t need much in the end about six feet left over usually works well. The swivel and snap with a swivel will eliminate knots. Barrels are usually easy for somebody to come up with wherever you are going. If you need to take houses with you then the plastic ones that snap together work well. Take them apart, make two stacks and take them with you. My opinion a good bed is as useful for getting the dogs settled in and quiet as for resting them up better. I always try to take an extra dog box as well. Makes a good place to haul or keep your female if she decides to come in while gone or it makes an old dog a good warm bed or a place to keep that mouthy pup shut up at night. I do picket my dogs for short periods of time. Some of these things I do more for other things than the dogs. Hard to keep dogs around strangers, period. Especially if you leaving dogs in camp during the day while you gone. If neighbors close by I load every dog that’s going hunting the next day the evening before. Try to eliminate as much early and late barking as possible. Otherwise I prefer to load up in the morning. I also prefer for the dog area to appear like the dogs are cared for greatly and in my opinion the individual set-up with a house and bowls appears to Johnny new comer and the new nosey neighbor to be just that. Especially if they poking around while I’m out. Had way more trouble with the new neighbors and limited noise than anything when traveling. The dogs will be fine however you choose.

I chain All my dogs up on a chain gang in the evening and then I put them in the box at night. I use a chain gang that way I only have to drive three stakes in instead of 8 individual stakes.

This is how we roll. nothin special, lots of guys do it like this, just including a picture for guys who haven't seen it.

always hobble the horses, but couple weeks ago I had the horses go on quite an adventure in their hobbles. I think the line like pacojack does his mules would be the way to go.

i like to stake mine out individually with 18" stakes and five foot chain. doudle swivel ends is a must. i usally try to find a camp along the creek where i can put the dogs right on the waters edge in the shadyest places possible. i think keeping them as cool as possible during there down time helps alot with there recovery if your hunting them everyday. i also take up certified straw and make them a bed but it seems they usually prefer to lay on the cool dirt or right in the water.

I heard of a few guys getting cited in Cal. for staking out there dogs this year. its illegal to tie your dog to anything stationary in this state. bunch of BS.
